I have a couple of people named Bolle (first and/or last name) and am wondering how to spell it. Bolle or Bølle???? Or do both exist and how do I figure out which is which????

I've seen both ways.

I have a few in my genealogy file at rootsweb (database kit2), but I haven't put the new stuff up yet--which includes the Bolle that lead me to ask this question.

One is the historical noble family, which I do believe the "last name" is spelled Bølle.

Then I have a Bolle (Bølle) that are first names, the newest is Bolle Vilhelm Møller. His christening record is at the AO in the Alsted, Alsted, Sorø records for 1645-1761 on opslag 114. I believe the date 3 Jul 1740. (3 paa Trinitatis 1740).

Hello Christina

I have seen the name Bolle as a first name for a danish parishvicar living in 1600s :D in Blenstrup parish, Hellum, Aalborg county.
, You could try to google "Bolle Mørch" and you will find him. I don´t know if this is usefull for you.

kind regards from Norma

As a first name it will always be Bolle. It is long time obsolete.
As a second name it will mostly be Bølle.
