I would appreciate some help with finding more information on Niels Jensen b 22 June 1833, Aasø, Glumso parish.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=21913139#428755,78531990

He is the alleged father of my great grandmother Ellen Kirstine Peterson.

So far I have his confirmation in Glumso 1848
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=21913139#428759,78532236

I have been unable to find any record of him after the 1870 census
I have checked the Afgangsliste in case he left Glumso but can not see him, I have checked up til 1880
I have located him in the Military Levy rolls Lægdsruller when he was first enrolled in 1834 and the last entry I can find is in 1858 where he is 25 years old
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17564,833543 - 26/11
If I could have the entry in right hand column translated that may give me some hints as to where to go next.  I am having trouble finding him in the records after 1864 when the areas were recorded in kreds.  I find it very confusing.
Any help would be appreciated to fill in a few basic gaps -
did he marry?
date of death ?
Thank you for any and all help received
Regards

My attempt to transcribe and translate the remarks in the 1863 roll:

1856 Soldat i 4 Batt. == soldier in 4th Battalion in 1856
1864 S i Forst. == soldier in reserves in 1864
Tjenstg: 1864 ved 16 Batt. == served with 16th Battalion in 1864
Tildeelt 33 Batt.  == assigned to 33rd Battalion

Does your great-grandmother's confirmation record say anything about her father?

Thank you for the translations.
Has he been removed from the roll in 1872 due to age.  If he was deceased would the record indicate that.

My great grandmother emigrated to Australia with her mother Ane Margrethe Pedersdatter and her new husband Lorenz Jacobsen in 1871.

Ellen was born on the 17 Apr 1867 at the Royal Birth Foundation, Copenhagen

The following is recorded in the Glumso parish record for Ellen's christening "Unmarried Ane Margrethe Pedersdatter at The Royal Maternity House in Copenhagen and alleged father of the child Niels Jensen, son of Jens Nielsen of Aasø, where the child's mother served (worked) from 1 May 1865 to 1 Nov 1866"

This is the only information for the father that I have.

I have checked through the Glumso parish death register til 1880 without seeing a death record for Niels Jensen.  What other avenues do I have to look for his death.

Citat fra: LeaAnne Davison Dato 30 Dec 2023 - 22:26Has he been removed from the roll in 1872 due to age.  If he was deceased would the record indicate that.

Age, yes.  If he had been injured or died before being dismissed, the rolls should say that.

CitatThe following is recorded in the Glumso parish record for Ellen's christening "Unmarried Ane Margrethe Pedersdatter at The Royal Maternity House in Copenhagen and alleged father of the child Niels Jensen, son of Jens Nielsen of Aasø, where the child's mother served (worked) from 1 May 1865 to 1 Nov 1866"

Ellen's birth is registered in Glumsø because of the law of 24 Jan 1844 that makes the home parish of the child the same as where the mother was living 10 months before the birth.

It is possible the mother tried to sue for child support.  I think that would be in Tybjerg herred's justitsprotokoller, after the birth of the child.  But this wouldn't tell you what happened to Niels Jensen.

CitatWhat other avenues do I have to look for his death.

Probate records for his father, mother, any childless siblings, childless aunts and uncles.  Did you search the marriage records for Niels ever marrying?

It is possible he emigrated.

I have spent quite a bit of time searching for any probate records for either Niels Jensen or his family.

The register I have searched are
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=15543884#419119,77111705
and
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17256320#211386,39970113

Unfortunately any Niels Jensen mentioned are not the right age.
I did find that his sister Karen Maria Jensdatter married a Niels Jensen, a completely different Niels Jensen a few years younger but from the same parish.
Niels is mentioned in his father's Jens Nielsen's probate (died 6 Mar 1867)
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=15543843#419118,77111252
Here is his mother's Karen Jeppesdatter's probate (died 5 Mar 1873)
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=15543843#419118,77111481

As for a marriage record, that is my next research area.  But I doubt I will find anything as I have found that usually the marriage will take place in the bride's parish.
He does seem to have disappeared after the 1870 census and he is not with any of his sibling's families and last mention of him is being removed from the military roll in 1872.. no reason given.

Thank you again for your time and suggestions
