alleged father Niels Hansen, son of Hans Hjulmand of Nørre Broby

I am trying to identify the father of Niels Nielsen, baptized on 9 July 1809 in Nørre Broby, Sallinge herred, Svendborg amt.  He was the son of Dorthe Madsdatter and alleged father Niels Hansen, son of Hans Hjulmand of Nørre Broby.  The baptism record is here, 2nd entry in 3rd column

I could not find a Hans Hjulmand in Nørre Broby in FT-1801.  Perhaps Hjulmand is his occupation, and his last name was not written in this baptism record?  There was a Hans Knudsen, hjulmand, in Nørre Broby.  Thanks to faesterogskifter.dk, I found Hans Knudsen's probate notes, with a son Niels Hansen in Hjelmdrup, Verninge sogn, Odense amt.

I have researched Niels Hansen from Nørre Broby to Verninge, and the son Niels Nielsen through his life, but I don't have proof that this Niels Hansen is the right father.

Thank you for the additional information.  I think I am on the right track, following Niels Hansen and his father hjulmand Hans Knudsen, but if that is right, then there is an error in the baptism record (Knudsen is not written), and I want another source to connect Niels Nielsen to his father Niels Hansen. 

I have followed Niels Nielsen, Dorthe Madsdatter, Niels Hansen, and Hans Knudsen using the church books, censuses, levying rolls, probates, etc., but have not found another source about Niels Nielsen's father.  I have considered doing more difficult research such as

1. looking for Dorthe Nielsdatter in court records, in case she asked for child support
2. trying to find Niels Nielsen in court records, in case he says who his father was
3. finding all the Niels Hansens in the Nørre Broby levying roll for 1809, then tracking each of them in hopes of eliminating the wrong ones
4. following the children of Niels Hansen, in case they had a connection to Niels Nielsen
5. find Hans Knudsen in court or other records, in case he says Hjulmand is a tilnavn
6. other ideas?

I'm not sure which idea would most likely lead to "the proof."

Hans Knudsen is the only hjulmand in the 1801 Census for Nørre Broby parish with the given name Hans
- and he has a son named Niels.

Ah, yes, I agree.  I will look a little more to find other records with Hjulmand as a tilnavn.
