Hi, is anyone able to transcribe and translate the details of the marriage of Jes Christian Jensen and Karoline? It is the 4th wedding on this page.

Thank you for that - my German is non-existent! I can read Danish, mostly, through knowledge of Swedish, and when I could work out nothing of this record I wondered if it may have been in German.

Was this area of Denmark part of Germany at the time? Why was the record kept in German instead of Danish?

The southern part of Jutland = Sønderjylland got lost after the Danish-Prussian war 1864 with the rest of the duchies Schleswig and Holstein - we are 'celebrating' the 150'th anniversary this year; this is also the reason why the the prussian law concerning civil marriage was introduced 1874 (and births and burials also). You still find the civil records of birth and death (since 1925 not weddings) paralel to those of the church in Sønderjylland; Sønderjylland = the northern part of the duchy Schleswig returned to Denmark 1920 as a result of a plebiscite. Look them up  http://wiki.dis-danmark.dk/index.php/Forside and the modern Danish name of the parish

Hi George,

You also find the civil registrations of deaths, births and marriages at
http://www.denjyskekirkebog.dk/FT/PersonRegistreBS.htm

Registrations for Skrydstrup parish prior to 1922 are found under Vojens:
http://wiki.dis-danmark.dk/index.php/Skrydstrup_Sogn

Best regards,
Inger Toudal
