Hi Ellen.

I've started to wonder how could I find the death records? For example how would I find out when Niels Jensen and Johanne Marie died? Would I have to take a wild guess and hope it is a correct book I am looking in?
You managed to find the ones of Niels Christian Z. and Oline's. I started by trying to find those records myself so I could understand how this works, but I am afraid I can not.. yet.

I try to work a bit more structured than just taking a wild guess.
But still there is a bit of guessing and a lot of hard work involved.

Let's take an example:

The parents of Niels Christian Zakarias Jensen.

From the census of 1890 we know the following:
Holbæk, Ods, Asnæs, Asnæs, Huus, 25, FT-1890, C5340
Navn: Alder: Civilstand: Stilling i husstanden: Erhverv: Fødested:
Niels Jensen 47 Gift Husfader Jordbruger Føllensløv 
Johanne Marie Jensdatter 45 Gift Husmoder Do [Jordbruger] Faarevejle 
Niels Kristjan Zakarias Jensen 17 Ugift Barn Do [Jordbruger] Asnæs 

.. At this time his parents live in Asnæs, Ods, Holbæk.

You can try to limit span of the years for which you should look for the death in the churchbook:
- Check the following census for 1901 etc.
- Check if they participate in any of the baptism of the grandcildren (here the might not have due to the distance)

But you'll still end up with having to look through the churchrecords of the parish for the last place you know, they have been living. – For this it is good to have a large computerscreen, so you can 'scan' the page quicker.

If we look in the churchrecords for Asnæs, Ods, Holbæk 1901-1910, page 175, you'll find the following record:

Død: 1904 5te Maj. Kgl Frederiks Hospital
Begravet: 13de Maj, Asnæs gl. Kirkegaard
Niels Jensen
Stenhugger og Parc. på Asnæs Lammefjord – var gift med Johanne Marie Jensen, 63 aar.

The age and the name of his wife fits. So this must be the right record (there is not that many people in Asnæs..)
Since it doesn't say, that he is a widower, his wife must have died after him.
And looking in the same churchrecord on page 195, you'll find:

Død: 1904 23. December. Asnæs Lmfjord.
Begravet: 29. December. Asnæs Sogn gl. Kirkegård.
Johanne Marie Jensen
Parcellist Niels Jensens Enke på Asnæs Lammefjord. 60 Aar.

And then you just do the same with all the other persons ...

Thank you for this. I see this looks like much work. Oh well, genealogy is much work when it's so far back

This was all easier than expected, once I learned what all this selection stuff meant.
