My 4 times great grandmother Ane Margrethe Hansdatter was born 11 Nov 1781 in Kolstrup, Bjerge, Odense, Denmark.

I found the birth record in the parish records for Kolstrup:
1776 - 1814
Opslag 26
born 11 Nov 1781
1st record

Until now I only knew her father was Hans and it looks like both parents are mentioned in the birth record but I cannot make out the names.

Thank you so much Heidi!  That is exactly what I was looking for.

Unfortunately the 1787 Census for Ladby, Kolstrup, Bjerge, Odense indicates that Johanne Andersdatter is his second wife and the first three children are from his 1st marriage.  I looked at the death records and could not locate a child bearing age female who died between the birth of the third child in 1786 and the Census in 1787 so I think I may be at a dead end on the name of my 5 times great grandmother.  :-\

Hans Larsen 38 Gift hosbonde bonde og gaardbeboer
Johanne Andersdatter 35 Gift madmoder
Lars Hansen 3 Ugift søn af 1ste ægteskab
Anna Magrethe Hansdatter 5 Ugift datter af 1ste ægteskab
Karen Hansdatter 1 Ugift datter af 1ste ægteskab

I think Johanne Andersdatter is your 5 times grandmother.

Anne Margrethe Hansdatter was babtised 11.11.1781
Lars Hansen was babtised 07.12.1783
Karen Hansdatter babtised 29.01.1786 (died early)
Karen Hansdatter was babtised 06.08.1786

I haven not been able to find Hans and Johannes marriage in Kølstrup, however there is a couple with these names married 08.10.1779 in Verninge parish, Odense (neighbour parish to Kølstrup)

Some of the counting-commissioners wrote children of 1. marriage even though the couple had not been married before.

Thank you all for the information and tips.  I have been searching and searching and could not find a first wife for Hans Larsen not realizing the census takers made those kinds of notations.  Until now when I have seen af 1ste ægteskab I have taken it to mean there had been a previous marriage.  In all other cases where I have noted this I did, indeed, find another marriage with a spouse dying.  This was the first time it did not work out that way and now I realize why.  I will make sure to expand the information on the Census data in the future when I run into this.  Thanks again.
