Morten Jørgensen & Maren Nielsdatter of "Skovballe" had their son, Christen, . . .baptized at home, at the church to publicize his baptism. . .         Is that "Skovbølle" in Købelev sogn?  Would there be a record of Christen's first baptism at home?  Rog Nelson

Hi Roger

I read (with partial translation):

6. Søndag p.Trinit.   (July 12 in 1795)
Havde (had) Morten Jørgensen og Maren
Nielsd.. af Skovballe en hiemmedøbt
Søn i Kirke, som blev kaldet CHRISTEN
     baaren af (carried by)
Anne Hansdat. Niels Pedersens paa (at/in)
Vindebyg(aa)rd.  Faddere vare - -  (Witnesses were)
Hans Nielsen, Peder Nielsen Ungk(arl) (bachelor)
og Thomas Hansen Huusmand (smallholder) alle af (all from)...?  (prob. Vindeby)
Dorthe Magrethe Fostermoder? (midwife?) ibd.
Ligeledes blev Morten Jørgensens
Koene indledt. (At the same time MJ's wife was introduced)

So Christen was probably born ca 1 month earlier.
Skovballe(gaard) can be seen at the 1899-map in the western fringe of Vindeby at http://historiskatlas.dk/
(find Vindeby in the northwestern Lolland and scroll on 'kort' (map) and choose 1899. On the later maps the
farm has got a new name.

There is no record on the baptism at home. It was usually performed the same day or 1-2 days
after the birth.

Thank you, Ole.  After having it translated the first time it was more confusing (to me anyway) because I could not find Skovballe on any map I have or in an Atlas of Denmark, Mange Tak!!
