Hi everyone

April from Sydney again. thankyou for the replies re 'didrichssen' - very helpful.

A general question here... can a 'huusmand' or 'insidder' or a 'hustrue' (without land) leave a Will?
and if they can leave a will, where would I look for it?

Thankyou

Ole Westermann

Yes, any heir/heiress can leave a will (Danish: give afkald paa arv / give arveafkald), and it it usually written in the probate records.
So you have to look for it there (if it still exists !)

mvh Ole

Ole Westermann

But anyway:
A 'huusmand' or 'indsidder' etc were poor people, and they seldomly left much behind, when they died.
Maybe some depts, and then it was actual for the heirs to make waiver of inheritance.
Wills were normally only made by wealthy people.

Kirsten Kjellerup

Jovist, Ole Westermann, men 'gå fra et testamente' giver jo ingen mening her. Man kunne evt. 'gå fra en arv', men så skulle det hedde 'inheritance' eller evt. 'legacy'.

Small estates seem to have gone through probate according to rules set as far back as the eleventh century.  Can someone explain how even a large estate might follow other rules?

A partial answer is that gifts could be made, both of goods and privileges.  And often the 'gift' was granted in exchange for some form of life income and care.
