Hi,

I am looking for a birth record for Ludvig Oskar Anderson, born 7 Jul 1877 in Denmark.  I know he was living in Copenhagen when he left for America in 1903.  His wife Gerda and children Irma, Hugo and Gladys traveled from Copenhagen to America in 1907.  I think they were already in Minnesota in 1904, but Gerda and the children traveled back to Copenhagen in 1905.  Irma was born about 1901; Hugo about 1903 and Gladys about 1906.  Any information about this family from Copenhagen would be a big help!

Hi Brian,

If the attached 1918 Draft Registration is your Ludvig, he listed birthdate as 23 June 1877.

-------------------------

In his Emigration Registration, Ludvig listed Hellerup as last residence, but unless Hellerup was formed from another parish, records prior to 1901 are not online.

Thank you very much Homer,

I think you have the correct emigration, but that is the wrong WWI Draft registration.

"My" Ludvig Oskar Anderson lived in Minneapolis, not Duluth.  I will try to attach his WWI Draft.

The Ludvig from Duluth was a shoemaker, the Ludvig in Mineapolis is a machinist.  Also, the Ludvig in Minneapolis is married to Gerda.  This name is confirmed in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census record.

You show that Ludvig Oskar Anderson left Copenhagen on 26 May 1903.  This is correct, he arrived in Boston on 10 Jun 1903 aboard the ship "Ivernia".  His wife Gerda followed in 1904 with two children.

I found a death record that says Ludvig was the son of Ole Andersen and Marie Jensen.

Gerda was born 14 Feb 1876 in Denmark.  In the 1905 census she is listed as Bertha, but otherwise always as Gerda.

Your information is very helpful!  Thank you!

Are there birth records for Hellerup available online?  How do I find them?  I can read Norwegian, so should be OK with Danish.  He had three children born between 1901 - 1907.  Gerda came back to Denmark about 1906 and returned 26 Jun 1907.

I found the passenger list that shows Gerda and her children Irma (born 1901) and Hugo (born 1902) arrived in New York aboard the "Oscar II" on 11 Feb 1904.

Hi Paul,

Thank you very much.  The passenger list says "Gerda E. Andersen", so I am sure you found the right one.  When Gerda died, it said her mother's name was Rasmussen, but didn't give her father's name.

Hugo was probably born August 1902.

Hi Brian

Maybe you have this:

According to census 1920 and 1930 Ludvig and Gerda had  daughter named Dorothy, born abt. 1915.

This could be her marriage: http://goo.gl/PgaEm

Brian Gaber

Thank you all so much for your help!

I thínk Judith has the correct record.  I know her name was Gerda Edith.... and her mother's name was Rasmussen.  I think thát is correct.

She married Ludvig Oscar Andersen about 1900 - 1901 in Copenhagen.  Is there any way to find a marriage record?

I do have all information after they arrived in America in 1904.

Tusen takk!

Brian

I found the family in the 1901 census (1 Feb. 1901):

FT-1901, København, Sct. Paulsgade, opslag 163, 3 Sal.

According to the census, they were married in 1900 and have one child, Irma Edith, born 28 Oct. 1900.

The family ic Catholic - and the church records for the Catholic church in Copenhagen, Sankt Ansgar are not online  :(

It seems that all three children were born in Copenhagen. Maybe the family lived in Hellerup only for a short period of time?

According to the Ellis Island ship manifest June 1907, Gerda, Irma, and Hugo had been living in Minneapolis 1904-1906.

The records for the Catholic Sankt Ansgar church in Copenhagen will be made available on ArkivalierOnline at some point, but I don't know when.
