Help Finding Great Great Grandfather

I came here in Hopes that someone can help me. I have spent many hours looking online for any birth record of my G G Grandfather his Name is Detleff Christensen. I have found many variations of spelling Deitluff, Dutluff, and Detliv in USA records.

Hi Patti,

(Dec must be a typo, as the gravestone lists 18 Oct 1846)

The attached naturalization card fits, but lists birthplace as Germany, which suggested he might be from the area of southern Denmark that was lost to Germany 1864-1920, and he is listed in Klaus Struve's list of emigrants, many of whom left to avoid conscription into the German army:

I emailed Klaus, and he kindly provided Detlef's birthplace:

I will attach the record in another post, but I can not read most of the details, or find the family in 1850 census.

I'm rather sure that Jacob Jensen Christensen is = to the father of Detlef Jacob Sörensen Chrestensen
The widow Anna Dorthea Sörensen then is said to be the mother in law of Jacob Jensen Chrestensen; she was born in Noerre Loegum, also county Toender around 1780.

Jacob was born in (Store) Emmerske, belonging to the parish Toender

And you can count on the fact that this young couple got a child every two years, so after Detlef 1846 you may look in Hostrup, village Jeising around 1848 etc. until tho mother dies from illnes or exhaustion.. You find the church books at www.arkivalieronline.dk. The county is Toender.

The next census is 1860, the last before the area got lost to Prussian (1864-1920). This census is not online (yet), but I checked the village Jejsing and didn't find any Christensen/Chrestensen there, The way of living would also indicate that the family might move around a bit.

The mother's birth name: Knuds - in the census: Knutzen; it's the same surname, Knud is Danish, Knutzen is German.

[Her confirmation is in the churchbook 1861-1892 opslag 250:
Febr. 14th 1864]

The next is interesting:
opslag 352:
May 30th, June 13th 1852
Johanna Dorothea Chrestensen, illegitimate daughter of Botilla Maria Chrestensen in Jeising, the widow of Jacob Sör. Chrestensen

So: Jacob must have died between 1849 and 1852
The burial is found in church book 1825-1932 opslag 133:
he died Dec 24th 1850
The entry says:
born in Store Emmerske Jan. 8th 1816, parents:
Sönnich Chrestensen and Anna Christina born Jensen
married Feb. 13th 1842 Botilla Maria Knuds, illegitimate dautheter of Anna Dorothea Andersen in Hostrup.
4 living children:

Detlef

He is buried in Hostrup parish, county Toender, but only very few grave stones from that time survived till now.

Here is the 24 Dec 1850 (Christmas Eve) death record found by Inger (last entry).

The brother Theodor is not listed by Klaus Struve, so probably didn't emigrate.   If the sisters emigrated, they would probably be listed by unknown married names.

Klaus is also a paid researcher, so you may wish to contact him regarding further research:
