Where on earth did you get that information from, Eva  ???

I looked up the name Maren in Politikens Nudansk Ordbog. An earlier form in Danish is Marin, which has its origin in Latin Marina, the name of a saint, meaning 'of the sea'.

"Star of the Sea" in Latin would be "Stella Maris", which is an ancient title for the Virgin Mary:

About the name Mary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_%28given_name%29

Eva,  you are absolutely correct.  John Jefferson in North Cambridge was my grandfather's brother.  I have begun searching that side now.

Lissa, I have checked to see if Marius Silius Jeppesen traveled to the US.  It does not appear to be the case.  I think that was his only sibling.  I did see you list several Jensen family members from the 1880 Danish Census... Steffen Jensen, Ane Marie (Madsen), Maren Jensen 8, Jens Kristian Jensen 6, and Marie Kirstine Jensen 3.  I assume that those may have been cousins, as oppose to siblings ?

Steffen Jensen etc. are persons that are living in the same house - probably they have nothing to do with your family.

Bob,

Just talked to a lady who is in charge of the Vangsaa local archive. I have sent her the link to this posting so she can see, what has been found. This is the link to the webpage: http://www.vangsaa-arkiv.dk/

Some of her husband's ancestors are a.o. Morten Pedersen Grønkjær, and she also has a number of Morten's ancestors.

Just a bit from the page:
Min mands aner stammer hovedsageligt fra Vangsaa, Vorupør, Snejstrup og Hundborg = "My husband's ancestors mainly originate from xxxx".

Jette is here: http://www.vangsaa-arkiv.dk/index-filer/Page647.htm#Thisted Dagblad 2004

And here with her husband Ole; they are both in charge of inspecting the beaches (sorry, but cannot find the right English word for their jobs): http://www.vangsaa-arkiv.dk/index-filer/Page647.htm#Familie journalen. Most often this job goes from father to son, and so it is here as well.

This is where a.o. Morten Pedersen Grønkjær lived:

"......

1834 date 16.12 - Deed to son Morten Pedersen Grønkjær.
1872 dato 6.2 - Deed from Morten Pedersen Grønkjær to son Peder Christian Mortensen (dead 1893) (as long as Morten is living, his son is also allowed to stay in the house)
1894 date 3.3 - Permission for the widow Mette Mortensen born Poulsen (dead 1923) to stay in the house.
1919 date 12.9 - Deed from Mette Mortensen to son-in-law Martin Andersen (dead 1941) (+ share of matr.14)
......"

I repeat this census, as Peder Christian Mortensen is Ole's (Jette's husband) gr grandfather:

Lissa,   thanks again!   I need a bit of time to absorb all of the information you have provided.   I feel embarrased to admit that I have been to Denmark twice... and not pursued this information.  But when I visisted Copenhagen ( 2005) and Aarhus (2009), I had no information on my great grandfather's heritage.

Thanks again for all your help !   I am going to try and obtain death certificates for Hans Jeppesen and Mary Pedersen later this week.  As soon as I have that, I will forward copies.

Lissa,   I just wanted to be sure that you received my emails that included photos of the cemetery head stone showing both Hans and Mary, as well as some of their sons.... and some Petersons.

I think Jette will be interested in the photos too,
Thanks!
