Working on geneology project, seeking relatives for confirmation of data, and sharing photographs.
I have some photo's I've acquired through my research which amazingly shows a strong family resemblance among the paternal line.  I cannot confirm my research past this stage:
Peder P. Poulsen 1826-1869
Annie (Ane) Marie Mortensen 1846-1896
I show the father of Peder is Poul Sorensen 1800-1885 and mother Lisbeth Jorgensen 1804-...
and I would like to find more data and clarification.  The ancestry shows they were born in Præstø, Storstrom, Denmark and moved to Idaho and then to Utah.
Any help would be appreciated.  In English please....thank you!
Carey Crowder, descendent of Peder P. Poulsen  (1826-1869) and Annie Marie Mortensen (1842-1896), both of Praesto, Storstrom, Denmark, moved to Utah

This Peder Poulsen was born 10 April 1826 and baptised 21 May in Mern parish, Præstø to Poul Sørensen and Lisbeth Jørgensdatter (opslag 50 no. 5).

He was confirmed there 26 April 1840 (opslag 230 no.11).

The father's first name is listed as Poul in both records, and Peder in above censuses may be a transcription error.

The only reference to a Storstrøm I find is in Maribo, which adjoins Præstø.

Bachelor Peder Sørensen of Kindvig, 27 y, was married to widow Lisbeth Jørgensdatter of Kindvig, 36 y, 15 June 1832.

AO: Præstø county, Bårse district, Mern parish 1814-1840, opslag 309, topmost entry.

Poul Sørensen, smallholder in Kindvig, born in Kindvig, 41 y, was buried 11 Dec. 1831 (the death date is illegible, but max. 7 days prior to the burial).

Carey, to clarify some, did both Peder and his parents emigrate to USA?

Was Ane Marie Mortensen born 1846 wife of Peder born 1826?
If so, did they marry in Denmark or USA?

What is source of the dates you have for them?

If the Poul Sørensen you list died in 1885 he can't the one we listed.

Carey,

Are the parents in the link below the Peder Poulsen and Annie Marie Mortensen you are referring to?

http://family.donovann.net/individual.php?pid=I1222&ged=web.ged

AO: Præstø, Bårse, Øster Egesborg 1851-1873, opslag 47, # 14:

1869, 4th July. (illegitimate [male child]). Parents: Anne Marie Mortensen in Staarby; alleged father of the child herdsman Peder Poulsen at Høvdingsgaard*.[ Age of mother:] 27. The mother has served in this parish from 24 July 1867 to 1 Nov. 1868.

* Høvdingsgaard is a manor in Mern parish. Øster Egesborg and Mern are neighbouring parishes.

Peder Poulsen, born 10 April 1826 in Mern, didn't die about 1869. Here he is with wife and daughter in the 1880 census (source: http://ddd.dda.dk/ddd_en.htm):

Hi Inger and Carey

at the link i passed http://www.aneopslag.dk/alle/per00064.htm#9
we see that Poul Sørensen's son Peder is married to Maren Johannesen married 17/6-1864 - he died 18.04.1890.

The owner of this webstie is very reliable with his informations.

Something seems to be wrong.

Hi Lis and Carey,

I agree, there's something wrong. In 1860, Peder Poulsen, born in Mern 1826, lived in Kindvig village with his mother, widow Lisbeth Jørgensen:

Præstø, Baarse, Mern, Kindvig By, 23 et Huus, 196, FT-1860, D5939
Name:    Age:    Marital status:      Posiition in household:      Occupation:      Birthplace
Peder Poulsen   34    Ugift   Hmd og Huusfader      Her i Sognet [Mern]
Lidspeth Jørgensen   65    Enke   hans Moder      Hammer

Hmd. (= husmand 'smallholder') Peder Poulsen's daughter Martha Marie Lisbeth Poulsen was born 27 Sept. 1868 in Kindvig (AO: Præstø, Bårse, Mern 1859-1878, opslag 74, # 27).

In 1870, he lived in the same place with his wife and daughter and mother (AO: FT-1870, Landsogn, Mern, opslag 39, persons 33-36), occupation worker/workman.

It's unlikely, though not impossible, that he was a herdsman at Høvdingsgaard in 1868-1869.

I looked up Høvdingsgaard in the 1870 census (AO: FT-1870, Landsogn, Mern, opslag 71-72). There are three herdsmen (Røgter) on opslag 72, persons 29-31, all married men, but nobody named Peder Poulsen.

In 1890, smallholder Peder Poulsen was a widower and lived with his daughter:

Præstø, Baarse, Mern, Nørre Mern Kindvig By, Hus, 4, FT-1890, C0760
Name:    Age:    Marital status:      Posiition in household:      Occupation:      Birthplace:
Peder Poulsen   63    Enke   Husfader   Husmand   Mern Sogn
Marta Marie Elisabet Poulsen   21    Ugift   Barn      Mern Sogn

Question: What does P. in Peder P. Poulsen stand for?

Best regards,
Inger T:

I'm assuming that this is the child born in 1869:

Ammon Martin Paulsen (1869-1943) was born in Praesto, Denmark, a son of Peder Poulsen and Annie Marie Mortensen. He immigrated to Utah in 1874, in the care of Jens and Karen Olsen. He married Annie Marie Gregersen (1877-1969), a daughter of Hans Gregersen and Ane Marie Hansen. They had ten children. Most descendants are LDS and live in Idaho.

Lis B. Jensen

Yes - but where is Karen and Jens Olsen living? and what is their connection to Ane Marie Mortensen?

The Peder Poulsen that is shown as father on Donnavan Webpage is wrong acoording to the link of Aneoplag - because he marries a Maren Johansen 4 Years before Ammon is born. And as Inge says it is a very common name in the area.

This census is the first record that I have been able to find for Ammon Martin Paulsen after his birth in 1869.  Using FamilySearch.org to find info, I tracked Jacobina Pedersen's birth to Apr 12, 1867 in Tølløse, Holbæk (1852-1888 Tølløse, ops 134 #12).  Her parents are listed as Jens Olsen and Karen Marie Olsen.  The FamilySearch info says that they were married in Utah but I find their marriage record in Tølløse (1853-1891 Tølløse ops 13) on the exact same date.  My guess is that Jens Olsen (his father was Ole Pedersen) changed his name to Pedersen at some point but other explanations are also  possible.

Based on the birth dates of their children, the family must have came to Utah in 1874 but I haven't found any record of the travel.

I haven't been able to find any relationship between Annie Marie Mortensen and Jens Olsen.  This snippet from the Jenson family tree website shown below is the best info that I have found.

"Henry Jenson had left Norway to go to Denmark at some time, probably to serve in the army. He married Annie Mortensen there. They had a daughter, Anna Elizabeth in Jagersburg, Copenhagen, Denmark. Anna later said she was smuggled into the country in a trunk and never was naturalized. From an Old Settler's Picnic register Henry has signed and said that he came to Burt County in 1880. Annie went to Utah to look for her illegitimate sons from Denmark that she had given to Mormons in Denmark. Her children, Anna and Andrew, were raised by George and Bergette Peterson.

Henry, a tailor by trade, made his home with his married daughter Anna Magee. At the time he died, however, he was at the home of George and Bergette Peterson. One family story said he lived in the county poor house for a time. " Donna Jenson Palmer, Omaha

Annie's other son, Hans Mortensen is living with his grandmother Petra Nielsen in the 1870 census (Vordingborg Landsogn ops 42).  He eventually makes his way to Copenhagen and can be found in the police register and the 1901 census.

As to Ammon's father, Peder Poulsen, I think we all agree that the Peder born in 1826 is not the correct one.  It is probably a fool's errand to attempt to track the correct Peder since we'll never know for certain if we have the right one but I find it an interesting coincidence that listed on the same 1870 census page that I listed above for Petra Nielsen (Vordingborg Landsogn ops 42), there is a 22-year old Peder Poulsen who is my best guess for the father.

Hi John

I dont' Think he is the one - he is to young to be herdsman - these are often older than 20 Years - but in Øster Egesborg there are more Peder Poulsen born abt 1825 that could be the right ones.
