I am trying to help a fellow American trace her biological mother.  She arrived in the USA on 30 Jan 1951 with her American Husband, Arthur Milton Engblom.  Her name is listed on the manifest as Aase Englom, age 25, Danish passport I,1157333.  Is there anyway to find her passport application?  Thanks for any help.

Hello Paul,

Did they arrive by plane or ship? I looked at passengers leaving from English ports but there is no Engblom in 1951. There is the possibility they left from Gothenburg, Sweden, aboard a ship of the Swedish American Line, the Kungsholm or the Gripsholm. However, I think that line also had departures from Cph. Seem to remember seeing the Gripsholm at Langelinie.

Hej Eva,

They arrived in New York City on 30 Jan 1951 on the M/S  Batory, a ship, which departed from København on 18 Jan 1951.  Supposedly Arthur Engblom married Aase in Denmark but I have looked through the civil marriages for København and did not find them.  Thanks for any help.

If you look at findagrave.com you don't get a a hit on a grave but they suggest a divorce certificate for a Aase Engblom. I googled the name and saw the man born in 1960 looking for his birth mother. Obviously she had her married name in 1960.
Perhaps she returned to Denmark and didn't remarry. I don't know if you can trace her in Denmark by giving her name Aase Engblom born around 1926. There is this Borgerservice in any Danish kommune.

Hej Eva,

Aase was born 30 Jun 1925 in Denmark and died in the US in 2004.  I looked at the divorce record and it is not Aase.  Perhaps I'll bet lucky.

Hej Eva,

I just looked up the Engblom who was born on 30 Jun 1925 and died 2004 and found her name was Elizabeth L. Engblom.  I think that the person looking for Aase thought this was close but I don't think it is the same person.

A lady who died in 2004 in Reno, Nevada has exactly the same date of birth, but is called Elizabeth L Engblom. Is that her? I think she is connected to a Katherine Engblom. A daughter?

Back to square one.

These are all called Aase. The child was born in Florida. One of them? There is also the possibility that she is still alive.

Hej Eva,

On the 1931 manifest for the Batory she is listed as Aase.  The Elizabeth L. who died in 2004 lived in the 1990s in the same town in which Arthur M(ilton) died in 1996.  Now the question is - is her name in Denmark Aase or Elisabeth L?  I think her Danish passport holds the solution.  Are those records available.

According to the ships' manifests Aase was born between 21 Jan 1925 and 14 Sep 1925.

Arrived N.Y. 20 Jan 1951: M/S Batory, passengers 19 & 20, Arthur Milton Engblom 38, Aase Engblom 25

Arrived N.Y. 14 Sep 1951: M/S Oslofjord, passenger 22, Aase Engblom 26

Hej Karsten,

Thanks for the information.  I didn't know about her second voyage.  The passport is the same as the first voyage.  I just wonder if the records of the passports are available?

There are some records at the national archive.  However, they are not complete and they are organized by police area.

Look at this search: https://www.sa.dk/content/dk/daisy/arkivskaber_og_arkivserie_liste?c=&a=politi&b=pas&d=1945&e=1950

Not knowing Aase's birthplace in Denmark it will be a tough job to search through all that.

There's a better chance at "Statens Udvandringskontor" https://www.sa.dk/content/dk/daisy/arkivskabers_arkivserier?a=&b=&c=udvandring&d=1945&e=1955&f=&g=&h=&ngid=376535&ngnid=376539&heid=3572878&henid=3572879&epid=&faid=&meid=&m2rid=&side=&sort=&dir=&gsc=&int=&ep=&es=&ed= (Emigrant Office).
