Theodora Marie Schroder was born on 4 November, 1891 in Soro, Vestsjalland,  Denmark.  Is it possible to learn the names of her parents ?  I have tried the US Passenger lists and cannot find an entry for her.

And information will be truly appreciated.

Could you please give us more details? Where did you find the date and place? The "Soro"
means here Sorø Amt - which is a region (or County) with a large number of parishes. We need to find the right parish to find the birth record in achurch book.

Do you have names of any sieblings? Any locality name in Denmark?

Theodora was confirmed at Romme 22 April 1906, born Menstrup, Marvede parish,
parents Hans Christian Theodor Schröder and Hanne Sofia Petersen.

Theodora and Fritz were passengers 16-17, and their destination was a friend W. Petersen of Pilger or Wisner Nebraska
(Pilsner and Wisner are different places, but near each other)

Passenger 15 who listed W. Petersen as his brother-in-law was a Hary K. P. Plougmann 23 from Pedersborg, Sorø.

(I'm unsure what the entry on Theodora's line is that looks something like "Picker Co."
It's possible she and Fritz were erroneously shown as with Hary Plougmann)

Dora Thor (nee Theodora Marie Schroder)  listed her birth information on her application for a US Passport on 12 September, 1919.   She stated she was going to Denmark to visit her parents.  That she would be going to Norway and Sweden enroute to Denmark.   She attested she was born in Soro, Denmark, on 4 November 1891.   On another item it was expanded to Soro, Vestsjallan, Denmark as her place of birth.

Because Dora Schroder arrived between the taking of the US censuses for 1910 & 1920 she  appears on the 1920 under the surname of Thor,  having married Jensen Thor after her arrival in the USA.

I had not found any siblings for Dora Schroder but will now search for Fritz Schroder in Nebraska.

I had not found any siblings for Dora Schroder but will now search for Fritz Schroder in Nebraska.

I don't find Fritz anywhere in U.S., 1917-18 Draft Registrations, 1920-later censuses, or Social Security Death Index, as Fritz, Fred, William, Schroder, Schroeder, Schrader, etc.

He may have died, returned to Denmark, moved to Canada, etc.

I am very appreciative for all the responses and data that you so kindly posted to me.   We have been away from home so I am just now going to print off the info and try to decipher it.

Without your kind generosity of time and effort I would have nothing on 'Dora' - Theodora Marie Schroder and her family.  I will check the Passenger lists to see if perhaps her brother, Fritz Schroder,  returned to Denmark when she went hom in 1919.

Unfortunately, there are no records available of passengers departing the U.S., only of those arriving.

Jens & Dora and 4 children arrived New York from Copenhagen 30 December 1929 on ship Oscar II, but don't find a 1919 trip.

But Fritz did return to Denmark, as the father Hans Christian Schrøder arrived New York 30 September 1935 on ship Frederick VIII from Copenhagen, his destination daughter Dora Thor in Wisner, Nebraska and nearest relative son Fritz Schrøder of Slagelse

Jens & Dora and 4 children arrived New York from Copenhagen 30 December 1929 on ship Oscar II, but don't find a 1919 trip.

Bettye, do you have any family knowledge of Dora and family during the 1920-1930 period?
Is it possible they spent most of that decade in Denmark?

Dora's 1919 passport application was for her and children Carl and Mildred.

In February 1920, Jens applied for a passport to visit relatives and "accompany wife and two children on her return trip" but this last part was lined out.

They are not in the 1920 Nebraska census.

In June  1921, Jens applied for a passport or extension from a "temporary residence in Denmark on account of wife's health" and listed children Carl and Mildred, plus a son Svend Erik born at Bromme March 1, 1920 (attached).

In 1930 census, they are all back in Nebraska.

Svend Schrøder is on opsl. 7 - lodging (born in Bjergby parish) - bachelor - unemployed.

PS: Cannot find Jens' birth in Skive parish - could be he was born in a parish outside Skive? Did he change name (lastname)?

Jens Jensen Thor did travel to Denmark after 1920.  He is listed on the 1920 Nebraska Census as Gus.
Dora Schroder Thor had taken her two children to Denmark to visit her family.   While in Denmark she gave birth to one or two sons.   She left Copenhagen on 17 Dec 1929 and arrived in NYC on 30 Dec 1929 on the SS Oscar II.    I must look at that passenger list again to see exactly how many children she had with her when she came back to Nebraska.

On the US census for 1940  Jens Thor and family were residing in Stanton, Stanton Co, Nebraska.
Jens age 52,   Dora age 48   children: Carl age 23, Eric age 20,  Francis  age 18.  Not sure where daughter Milly was living.  I know she married about 1941.

Jens J Thor  US Passport info dated the 24 June, 1921.  He stated that he was temporarily residing in  Vedde, Sjaelland, Denmark.  He stated that he left the USA on 11 March, 1920 on a passport issued on 11 February, 1920.  That he was going to visit relatives

Lissa,   Jens Jensen was b 31 October in Resen Parish & baptised there on 13 November 1887.
On 2 June 1905 his mother, Ane Marie Mortensen,  petitioned the court to change her surname to THOR and that of her 5 youngest children which included Jens.
