I am looking for information on my great grandfather Lawerence Emil Larsen.  Items I have found are:

Marriage record lists:
his name as Lawrence E. Larsen
   Fathers name as Frederick Larsen
Mothers name as Ellen M. Nielsen
   born in Helsinger Denmark

His obituary lists:
born on Sjoelland Island, Denmark on February 28, 1863
Immigrated to the United States in 1879.

I have found other records after his arrival in the United States, but have no information about his family or life in Denmark.

Thank you,

Richard Johnson

Richard, did you know he was a twin?  Their births are recorded at Skt Mariæ and the baptisms at Skt Olai, in Frederiksborg, attached (Skt Mariæ 1843-1863 opslag 137 and Skt Olai 1861-1874 opslag 30)

And a puzzle:  Lauritz Emil must have left his parents' household early, as his twin Heinrich John was confirmed at Skt Olai 1877, but L. E. is not listed there (attached):

Dear Jens Thomassen,

The information that is on Ancestry.com was from information prior to finding the marriage record and obituary which shows that his fathers name in not Jens, but Fredrick.  I have been unable to change the data on Ancestry and am working with them on updating the old information with the new.  At the time this information was put on Ancestry it was assumed that his fathers name was Jens Larsen, but the marriage certificate now shows that this was wrong and thus it is true that I don't have any accurate information on his family or life in Denmark.

Thank You,

Richard Johnson

This makes sense that it is the right person since Grand Island is only about 30 miles from where he ended up living.  Also even though his obituary states that he arrived in 1879 the 1900 and 1910 US census states that he arrived in 1882, thus this immigration record appears to be accurate.

Thank you,

Dear Jens Thomassen,

This record does appear to look like it may be his and even though the birth date matches the one given on his obituary I don't know how to explain the  difference in the name of the father which  is shown on his marriage certiificate as Frederick Larsen?

Thank you,

Richard Johnson

Dear Mr. Ficken,

This information may not be accurate since it is based on the assumption that his fathers name was Jens Larsen and not Frederick Larsen.  That is why I'm trying to straighten this out with more research based on the new information found on his marriage certificate.

Thank you,

Richard Johnson

Dear Verner Bentsen,

This was a line of research that was originally done, but I now think is was based on the wrong assumption that his fathers name was Jens Larsen and not Frederick Larsen as is given on his marriage record I found in St. Paul, Nebraska.  That marriage record is why I am trying to find out if there is any information on his Danish ancestry based on this new information which should be different than what was found based on the original assumptions.

Thank you,

Richard Johnson

The odds are extremely slim that there were two Lauritz Emil Larsens with the same birth date, both born in Helsingor, and mother's name of both Ellen Nielsen.  On the other hand, odds of errors such as father's name recorded in another country years later are pretty good.

The extensive data on the old forum (which you should have reminded us of) indicates that by at least the time Lauritz was 14, his father had abandoned the family, and Lauritz was living with foster parents.  He may thus have had dim or unpleasant memories of his father.  The only error was probably his marriage record, which was later copied for his obituary.
