I am looking for help finding my Danish lineage. Non of us speak or read Danish (in New Zealand) only my grandfather Lars Philip Westh b. Knudsker 28/11/1853 came to NZ. Some info has been given but dont know where or how to fill in blanks or where to go from here with language problem. - As follows:

"I found a list of people who emigrated from Bornholm. On the list there are 3 of the half-brothers of Lars Philip:

1.  Jens Christian Rømer, born 11 Feb 1857, emigrated 10 May 1875, travelled to Fon du Lac, Wisconsin, occupation: servant
Jens Christian has become James by 1900 and is living in Neenah, Winnebago county, Wisconsin. He is a hotel keeper and has a wife, Mary, and children Walter, Godfried, Jessie, Mary, Clara and Vieggo

2.  Herman Martin Rømer , born 15 Sep 1860, emigrated 26 Apr 1882 to Central City (??), occupation: blacksmith
Herman has gone to Port Gamble, Kitsap county, Washington. He is working in a mill and has a Norwegian wife Cristine and two children, William and Sophia, born in Washington state.

3.  Viggo Rasch [sic], born 30 Apr 1865, emigrated 7 May 1887 to Albert Sea, Minnesota, occupation: carpenter
There is a Christian J Romer, farmer, born Oct 1857 in Denmark, who came over in 1888. He has a wife Petrea and 9 children. All but the last two were born in Denmark and came over in 1889 with their mother. Ellen C, Johannes, Anna, Hilda and Einar are living at home. Fred and Marie are working in other households in Albert Lea. The other two must be elsewhere (I only know there are nine because of what Petrea said on the census).

All 3 use the last name: Rømer (Roemer) after their father.

I do not think that the parents of Lars Philip had other children, so the only living relatives that can be found is either through his parents siblings or through his half-brothers."

I havent been able to find Philipmine Rasch (Westh) Romer's death nor
Jens Romers death record.   Also a death record for Karl Minius their son who was born in 1869

There is also a reference on the 1840 census of a Mine Rask who appears to be born the same year as Philipmine so am wondering if this is a twin???

On the same census there is a Malene Rask with husband Hans Ipsen - could she be another sister of Philipmines???

In my post of last February, I believed Mine was a nickname for PhilipMINE.

Malene certainly seems to be a sister of Philipmine's; Malene even names her son Philip Rasch Ipsen, presumably after her/their father.

To verify the relationship, maybe some kind soul will check the churchbook if you can't...

The look-up Marion wants is birth of Malene Kirstine Rasch (to know whether Malene is sister to Philipmine Rasch). Philipmine's parents are (according to Marion) Philip Rasch b.1797 d.1823 wife Margarethe Kirstine Jensdatter b1798 remarried to Didrich Lyster.

Hi again Lissa - also, Marion started a new thread with a question related to this family.

In it she mentions another half-brother is Karl Minius Romer, although I can't remember now about him - I thought he was eliminated as a brother but maybe not. Long time ago that we worked on this.

That other thread also found Philipmine died in 1900 at the farm of Peter Ipsen. We think Philipmine was sister to the Malene Rasch in the 1855 census, below, so maybe Peter Ipsen is Malene's son Anders Peter Ipsen.

Marion had asked for a lookup for the birth of Malene Kirstine Rasch, to know for sure whether Malene is Philipmine's sister. I'm sorry I can't help with that myself.

Malene Kirstine is born 6. dec 1821, bapt. 26 dec.
Parents Philip Rask and Margrethe Kirstine Jensdatter.

Filipmine died living at Peter Ibsen. (35 S.F. is a house, not a farm. Sorry)
Ref. census 1901 Klemensker, opslag 669 and 668 is Peter Ipsen born 22. oct 1865 in Klemensker, married in Klemensker 18. nov 1892, his name is Peter Kristian Ipsen (Klemensker 1892-1900 opslag 119 nr. 13).

All I have on his parents is unconfirmed as follows:

Mother: Kirstine (Jensen) Weftsdatter b 1765 St Clemens, Denmark

I find it hard to make the connections on family search so any help would greatly appreciated.

Corresponding to this record, I find in the 1760-1814 Olsker parish records (ops 15) that a Kristina is born to Weft Pedersen on April 9, 1769.

I know there is a St Clemens church near Olsker but I'm not sure if it's in the same parish.
