Who can help me finding information on Axel Jens Emil Dichmann who drowned in a tragic accident in New York. He was a sailor and sailed from Copenhagen with arrival in New York, 7 oktober 1938th The same evening he was found drowned between the ship M / S Tureby and quay. He had fallen overboard. The crew held a memorial service and he was buried in the cemetery: Cypress Hills National Cemetry Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. I have the original document from the company that was sent to a family in Kbhvn. Axel's last known address is the second July 1933: Fredericiagade, 48.
Sincerely Henning Dichmann Drumm Hoybye. Denmark

Homer Ficken

Henning, there is a Cypress Hills National Cemetery at 625 Jamaica Avenue, Brooklyn and another Cypress Hills Cemetery at 833 Jamaica Avenue:  He would not be buried in the National Cemetery, which is for U.S. military veterans and kin.

Here is his memorial; is Michael Høybye your relative?

Very interesting, Vibeke.

Also the family is posted on GENI:

It could be that the Danish Seaman's church (Den Danske Sømandskirke) in Brooklyn in New York has some records of Axel:

What kind of fool am I?
I went into the links you've sent. Found the Cyprus Hill Cemetary. Yes, Michael Høybye is my spouse. I did not know he had written the post.
Searched anyway and found a match on Axel. You must be a member to see the document. I joined. DKK 300.00
New search. Answer: No match. I will send an email to the Danish Church over there. So it's just waiting. Thanks again for your help. I appreciate that. Vh. Henning

Hi again - No kind of fool!  ;)

Danish Archives North East (DANE) also might help.

Maybe a DANE volunteer would look for a newspaper story about Axel's death. DANE also has records for Our Saviours Danish Lutheran Church in Brooklyn and other records. A long shot....

What organization did you pay to join?

Paul Londahl-Smidt

The Danish Seaman's Church in Brooklyn has a website http://dskny.org/  At the bottom of the page is their e-mail address.  I would e-mail them and see if they have any information.

This organization has volunteers, as in the forum, who help out with genealogy requests. Might also be worth an email.

The Danish consul in New York was probably involved. Have you check his files in Rigsarkivet?

No, not yet. I live in Rønne, and it ´s not every day I ´m in Copenhagen. Thought it might be a good idea to wait and se if I will get any answers from all those places, I ´ve written to.
