Taking a look at the 1921 census for Aalhomvej 16, København, opslag 24, I found that Laura Marie is married to Jørgen Frederik Lassen.  From the dates of birth of the Larsen children it would seem that Gustav Messke died sometime before 1911.

Sincerely,
Paul

Gustav Adolph Otto Messke's is a very German name so it is my commandment, clearly Germany. ;)

It is late here in North Carolina, USA but I did find the birth of Kaj Søren Dam Larsen to frakilt (divorced) Laura Marie Christine Messke Dam and Jørgen Frederik Larsen, David, Sokkelund, København, 27 Jul 1911, opslag 125 nr 107.  Unfortunately I cannot read the rest of the record.

Sincerely,
Paul

Jørgen Frederik Larsen and Laura Marie Christine Messke født Dam were married 22 Dec 1911 in København Magistrate, David, Sokkelund, København, opslag 74 nr 84.  As far as I can read Laura Marie Christine and Gustav Adolph Otto Messke were divorced on 17 Feb 1911.

Hi Homer,

Taking a look at the Copenhagen Police Register, it only says Gøteborg and not Sverige.  I suspect when Gustav told the police Guterbog with a German accent, they heard Gøteborg.  I think he was born in Prussia and not Sweden.

Sincerely,
Paul

Of course you are correct Paul!  I was looking at the website's text to the right of the image:

Hovedperson
Gustav Adolph Otto Meske , 31-1-1876 , Sverige, Göteborg
Stillinger: Barbersv.

And both of his parents' names (Gottlob Hermann Messke and Pauline Augusta Uhlich) are very German.

I wonder how a German barber ended up in Frederikshavn!

Hi Homer,

Guterbog, Prossen, most likely Prussia.  Their churchbook through 1882 is available through the Family History Centers. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titlefilmnotes&columns=*%2C0%2C0&titleno=208881&disp=Kirchenbuch++

But the marriage record does clearly read Jüterbog, not Guterbog, so is the FHC listing same place?   If I search map sites for Guterbog they take me to Jüterbog:

I just checked the Database of citizenship awards 1776 - 1960
but nobody seems to match Gustav Adolph Otto Meske.
I've tried various combinations.

Hi,

The marriage record clearly states Jüterbog in Prøjsen (Prussia) .

Here is a wiki page about the town: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%BCterbog

Thank you all who have helped us! You have given us an amazing gift. We hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and wish you a New Year full of joy and good health. I would love to know how you all find information so quickly....I am in awe.

Lis, do you think that maybe he Gustav Adolph Otto Messke returned to Prussia (Germany) after divorcing Carl Gustav Messke's mother? Can anybody guess why he, as a barber, might be in Northern Denmark? I could understand if he were in a seagoing occupation. Guess some mysteries might remain a mystery.

around 1919 when North Schleswig became Danish all who lived in northern Schleswig (Åbenrå, Tønder, Sønderborg, Haderslev amter) at the time could apply for Danish citizenship and that was what I was looking for, but many are not in the database, not even my relatives.

Here is the link fore it, but its on danish.....the top is about work permits and the lower is the citizenship award .....

http://www.ddd.dda.dk/immibas/htm/immibaslink.htm

we have also an emigrant database, but I can not find him .....

http://www.emiarch.dk/search.php3?l=da

Did He perhaps have a particular religion, I'm wondering if maybe he was a Mormon, as in North Jutland was a "great" congregation of Mormons .... it was just something that just occurred to me.
it can also be that he knew one in North Jutland and therefore went there ore that the work he was looking fore where there.

if he is taken back to Germany, I can not say from what I have found / or not found, so far.

Hey again.

You can find the seperation between Gustav Adolph Messke and  Laura Marie in the AO. Choose "Andre arkivalier" and "Københavns Overpræsidium" and SJ-journaler year 1907 case 418-849 opslag 140. The final divorce is in 1910 case 701-1050 opslag 221.
It states that he has left the country between 1907 and 1910, but not whereto.
I cannot read it all, but perhaps someone else can better read the handwriting.

With kind regards
