Hi Lis, Wow - what a lot of progress!!! The gaps in the story are filling in.

Homer already posted census records, but here is a little more complete version. It shows that other people live with Niels and Sorine in most years. Interesting because Sorine writes in her postcard about people who take care of them - and a girl she takes care of.

As for Amelia - I did look at 1920 census. Lots of Amelias! Most of them are Italian, some are Spanish, a couple are French...

In the death record of Fred Mikel Mekkelsen, Sr., his mother's maiden name is listed as Anna LARSEN.  This gives a further connection to Lis's family.  I am e-mailing all these records to Lis.  How can I attach pictures to these posts?

I can on the death certificate of niels see that the informant of his death is a MRS. HANS NIELSEN, and him I have found with Amalia.
His death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage,  is it perhaps a stroke?
and Sorin to be death of Chronic Endrearditis, What is this?

Paul, is it the "how to" or the format that your question concerns?  If it's the "how to" just click on Øvrige funktioner and it will bring up a browse option to find the image on your PC, and below that a list of format types accepted, and the limit of 200kb per image.  To add another image, click on (flere vedhæftinger) just right of Browse.

And while you are looking at death records, are there any for an Andrus/Andreas/Anders/Andrew Petersen/son or wife Mary?

Paul, if the image is too large to be loaded - you can use Irfanview (free and safe to download). Open the image in Irfanview, click "Image", click resize/resample, and resize the digital size smaller, as much as needed. Many people upload a cropped version of a record. To do this, crop the image with any photoediting software. I use Picasa (free, safe to download, from Google).

Hi Lis,

Definite proof that Anna Mikkelsen and Juliane Mettine Larsen are the same person.  I have found the death record of Anna M. Mekkelsen, died 18 Jan 1943.  It lists her birthdate as 24 Dec 1873 and her birthplace as Tvedsted, Denmark, both of which Juliane Mettine Larsen's information.  The only item that doesn't match is that her father's name is given as Neil Nielson, but I am 100% sure this is your relative.  I am going to try to contact a grandson of Thomas and Anna this afternoon.  Is it alright if I give him your e-mail address.

Well, Niels Nielsen is her step-father. AND her mother is divorced from her biological father. AND the biological father is/was in Denmark, while stepfather Niels Nielsen is locally known to the family in Vermont. So....a survivor filling out the death certificate could certainly say her father is Niels Nielsen.

Lis - Where did the portrait of the three women come from? It seems to me it is made in America, that is was made by "The J. Something Studio." If so then that is an indication that Juliane/Anna and Mette Marie/Mary both came to USA. Sorine was 38 when she immigrated, and it seems to me Sorine in the photograph is older than that.

Attached is a daughter Agnes born 1905 in Plainfield.

But I can not find the family in USA 1910 and later.

Agnes is the third child of this mother.

Homer - it's worth continuing because often descendants in America haven't sorted through to Denmark the way Lis and the Forum are doing. So I can guess that the Mikkelsen family will be equally glad to hear from Lis!

Thanks Lis  - I did figure that out. You are kind to help me with that, and I appreciate your commenting. Sorry for my goofy post. Somehow I thought you were talking about the postcard, not the portrait, and for a while I thought the portrait was made in Denmark!

Once you have contact, it is possible - IF you wish - to start a family history page on Facebook where descendants can connect. I have about 300 cousins on Facebook who all wanted to be connected to their family history. They will be as happy as you to find the bridge from Denmark to USA!

Lis, the J must be a C:

The photographer was Christian Bau, born 1855 Denmark.   He is listed as a photographer in Barre 1910, but in 1900 he was in Massachusetts, so the photo must date early 1900s.

So if the photo is Mette Marie at left, Juliane standing, and Sorine at right,  they would be 23+,  27+, and 45+?
