I am looking for a birth record in 1849 from Silkeborg. The problem is that these books seem to start 1856. Does anyone know if they exist?

Strangely enough I think I have found the answer. It looks as though Linå Parish was included with Silkeborg.

Silkeborg Sogn er et sogn i Silkeborg Provsti (Århus Stift).

Silkeborg Handelsplads blev oprettet i 1846. Her blev Silkeborg Sogn oprettet i 1855 med Linå Sogn som anneks. I 1900 blev Silkeborg købstad, og sognet blev et selvstændigt pastorat. Købstaden hørte geografisk til Gjern Herred i Skanderborg Amt, og dens landdistrikt hørte administrativt til herredet. Ved kommunalreformen i 1970 blev Silkeborg købstad kernen i Silkeborg Kommune.

I Silkeborg Sogn ligger Silkeborg Kirke fra 1877.

It doesn't say anywhere that he was adopted.

His full name was Laurits Hermann Frobøsse.

Magdalene Amalia was born out of wedlock. Her mother's surname was Terkelsen.

Just following on from this post, I am trying to put together a timeline for Lauritz, but I’m not entirely sure of my research (and may have also made some mistakes along the way). If anyone is really bored and looking for something to do (!) I would so appreciate it if you could have a look at the timeline below and confirm if I am on the right track (I have not included any birth facts or information after 1873 as I feel more confident about that).

1850 census
There is a woman by the name of Amalie Magdalene Pertrelsen and her child, Julius Lauretius, who are at chokolade fabrikket (a chocolate factory?) in Copenhagen. Would it be possible that these two are actually Amalie Magdalene Terkelsen / Frøbøsse and her son, Lauritz Herman Frøbøsse? Lauritz would have been around 6 weeks old at the time of the census (the child in this census is 1-year-old), so perhaps I have the wrong people?

1860 census
Lauritz (Laurentz Terkildsen) is recorded as a foster child at Prindsessegade fh. Prindsensgade. Does anyone know much about this place? Is it just the name of a street or was there a workhouse there (I seem to recall reading something about Our Saviour’s workhouse or similar, being located in that area)?

Lauritz’s father is recorded as Anders Holgrd (is this a shortened form of Holdgaard / Holdgård)? I don’t imagine Anders is his real father though. I am having difficulty deciphering Lauritz’s residence — is it Grøndalsgaard (and is this where Anders is staying also)? Is Grøndalsgaard in Viborg?

You're right about Lauritz's name being very different in the 1850 Census. The main thing that led me to think it may be him was that one of the people mentioned in that particular census was Ravns Enke, a widower. There is a note on Lauritz's birth record that he and his mother, Amalie, stayed with the widow Ravn when they were discharged from Fødselsstiftelsen in 1850 (although I may not have translated that quite correctly and perhaps Ravn is a common name)!

The address for widow Ravn in Udsætterprotokollen (Nr. 12) 5 Jan. 1850  is Rigensgade 164 (or 167).

In the 1850 Census 1 Feb. 1850, the address is Rosengade 437.

But the surname of Amalie Magdalene in the 1850 Census is probably Terkelsen (certainly not Pertrelsen).

 - the name of the child seems to be Julius Lauritsen.

Age 1 year in the censuses 1787 - 1860 meant between 0 and 1 y. old.

I would say it could be Amalie Magdalene with her child Lauritz Herman, born 22 Dec. 1849.

Just to clarify the above, Anders Holdgaard was living in Klosterlund, Kragelund Parish, Hids, Viborg at the time of the 1860 census, but Laurits worked as a farm boy with Anders in Grøndalsgaard (which appears to be in Aalborg)?
