Hi, I am looking for help translating and interpreting the information on a levying roll for Hans and Niels Sørensen of Ørslev.  I have attached the image - they are record 64.  I am hoping to track them in further levying rolls and learn more about them from any information contained in this roll.  Thank you very much.

Ole Westermann

Always better with a link - easier to adjust - which I found -
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17271,738320

64 - 48   Hans - (born) Glænøe - 15 -            at Glænøe - (moves to) A4 D75*
       49   Niels  -           do        - 21 - 61¾"        do
Ls. K.R. 92 andk(ommet)
fra L(ægd) Nr.8 Høve
Sogn Antvorskov Amt
blev ?? 93 befunden
udygtig til ald slags Krigs
Tieneste fik Udygtig-
heds Pas
for Fodskade
- so Niels was a soldier in 1792 at Kongens (Kings) Regiment, arrived from lægd 8 Høve parish i Antvorskov Amt (County)
- was in 1793 found unfit for mil. service caused by a foot injury - and is dismissed from the roll.
*Hans in next roll in Antvorskov amt in 1796 (roll with D) - here
  https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17284,740291
D75 - nothing new - moves to lægd 8 with number F111 (thats in 1798)
- try it yourself (but in 1799 he moves to a new amt - Sorø (in Ørslev p))

mvh Ole

Thank you Ole.  Maybe I need a little more help figuring out how to navigate these rolls.  How do you know what A4 D75 means in this case?  Also, what does laegd 8 mean here?

Ole Westermann

That's not so easy ! - and takes some time to get familiar with.
Here is a guide (in Danish) for the rolls  https://www.sa.dk/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/godt-i-gang-med-laegdsruller-juni-2017.pdf
- maybe you can use a translation program or anything like that.
Every 3. year there was a Hovedrulle (main roll) and in between every year a Tilgangsrulle (arriving roll for persons moving around).

  - so Niels was a soldier (Ls - Landsoldat) in 1792 at Kongens (Kings) Regiment, arrived from lægd 8 Høve parish i Antvorskov Amt (County)

At my first link you see in the left column all counties (Amt) outside Copenhagen 1789-1864 in alphabetic order.
Niels is found in 1791 Antvorskov lægd 8 at https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17261,736668 left nr 63
but is not there in the 1792 roll - but popped up in lægd 3 in Korsør amt 1792 (with no old nr) together with brother Hans, who had the old nr 64
- and that comes from the 1791 roll https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17262,736804 left age 14 (no Niels)

A4 D75 - A for Antvorskov (only used for the early rolls) - 4 means lægd 4 - D is a code for the year (here 1795) - 75 is his nr there.
- see https://www.sa.dk/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/I-laegdsruller-anvender-man-bogstaver-i-stedet-aarstal.pdf

In 1796 is told, that Hans moves to 8 F111 - 8 is the nr. of the lægd - F is code for the year 1798 (see column to the left) - 111 is his nr. there
that is here  https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#490138,742555 left - tells that he moves to 66 G149
- same year Antvorskov amt disappears and is replaced by Sorø amt - so scroll down to Sorø 1799 (year code G) and find lægd 66 and nr.149
- https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17297,743294 right bottom
G149 - new nr.104 --- next time you find him in Hovedrulle 1803 in lægd 66 with nr.104
  https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=16481031#17308,746410 left
104 - 76  Hans - Glænøe - 25 - 69½" - Glænøe
He was Lds (Landsoldat - soldier) (17)98 at K.R. - in 1805 he is redundant (Overkomplet) - and in 1806 he is dismissed (Afskeed) - and striken out !

I hope this has helped a bit.

This is helpful and I've been able to track some people a bit more effectively using this guid.  I still ultimately run in to the basic problem of not being able to read much Danish, but these records are very helpful in tracking people between the census.

I was going through my old research on my Danish ancestors and realized that you were the person who helped me 11 years ago!  Time flies - thanks for continuing this great work.
