Hej Lis.

It looks like you find the correct person as the ship record is from the 24th of March 1887 (page 800)

Udvandreprotokollerne [Danish records of people emigrating from Denmark]

Navn:   Petersen, Nancy H.   Stilling:   Jomfru
Alder:   19   Bestemmelsessted:   New York
Kontrakt nr.:   88300   Forevisningsdato:   3/3/1887
Sidste oph.sogn:   København   Sidste oph. amt:   København
Sidste oph.sted:   Kbhvn.   Bestemmelses land:   USA
Bestemmelses by:   New York City   Bestemmelses stat:   New York State
Skibsnavn:   Indirekte [so she didn't take a ship directly from Denmark to USA]
IDkode:   I8687P2308

So the document state you found that she was on the Ship "State of Nebraska" from the Line Glasgow & Laine, which sailed the route Glasgow-New York.
See: http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=stane

So the ship left Glasgow the 12th of March 1887 and arrived in New York the 22nd of March 1887.
She showed her ticket in Denmark the 3rd of March 1887, so she took a ship from Denmark to England [most likely arriving in Hull from Copenhagen] and then probably moved on train to Glasgow.

She has listed in destination in Denmark as New York, so maybe she stayed in the state from 1887 until married in 1897; the problem is lack of archives in that period.
Sadly most of the US 1890 census was destroyed in a fire and the New York State Census of 1892 apparently only covers 40 counties of New York as the rest was lost in another fire!
Searching the family search archive for the 1892 state census doesn't give any possible "Nancy Peterson" candidate.

It did however find Grant Fredenburg with parents and older brother.

New York State Census 1892:
Roseboom. Otsego County. New York.
Benjamin Fredenburgh. 74 years old. farmer.
Sarah A. Fredenburgh. 67 years old.
Irvin Fredenburgh. 29 years old. laborer.
Grant Fredenburgh. 25 years old. laborer.

In 1903 "Nancy Fredenburg" return to USA after a visit in Denmark. She sailed to USA with the ship "S.S. Oscar II" from Copenhagen 4. November 1903 arriving the 17. November 1903.
She travelled alone and the trip was paid by her husband.
It states they are living in Sharon Springs, [Schoharie County]. New York.
Source (page 78, number 12): https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-8161-42V?i=77&cc=1368704&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AJFYK-86J

This fits with the 1905 New York State census that had them in Sharon.

Census 1900 also have them in Sharon.
They are number 70 & 83 [strangely enough] and are working as farm laborer and servant respectively.

At her death 28. March 1907 (it says Nancy H. Fredenburg so it has to be her?!) she was living in Canajoharie, Montgomery County, New York.

Here she is in the Danish "udvandreprotokoller" on her travel from Denmark back to USA.

Navn:   Fredenburg, Nancy   Stilling:   Hustru
Alder:   35   Bestemmelsessted:   N.Y.
Kontrakt nr.:   416900   Forevisningsdato:   11/4/1903 [= 4. November 1903]
Fødested:   Lau   Fødesogn:   ?
Sidste oph.sogn:   ?   Sidste oph. amt:   - USA
Sidste oph.sted:   U.S.A.   Bestemmelses land:   USA
Bestemmelses by:   New York City   Bestemmelses stat:   New York State
Skibsnavn:   Oscar II
Bemærkninger:   FST: Kan ikke lokaliseres, men der er en Lau i Gotland, Sverrig.   IDkode:   D0304F0204

The note says that it can't be localised in Denmark, but that you have a Lau in Gotland Sweden.
I can add that as she is from Hammer Parish (Præstø) it is an alternativ spelling of the village "Lov" [small town with 575 people living there in 2021]
Location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/4700+Lov/@55.1645534,11.8511166,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x4652c75f51f93baf:0xa00afcc1d50dcb0!8m2!3d55.164554!4d11.855494?hl=en-GB

Her birth/baptism record states that her parents lived in ?Risdlod? that must be modern "Riselod" [also in Hammer Parish].
Riselod and Riselod Huse are areas just south of Lov as can be seen from this paper:

"Udgravningsarealet ligger umiddelbart syd for den nuværende Lov by på det område, der også kaldes Riselod og Riselod Huse". (page 3)
Source is the archaeological dig and report by Suzanne Outzen from Næstved Museum, where the examined "Hammervej" - the road that leads from Lov south to Hammer.
Page 5 shows a map where the digging was performed right between the southernmost part of Lov and you see south of the dig area (blue cross-hatched) "Riselod Huse".
Source: http://www.naestved-museumsforening.dk/arkaeologi/rapporter/pdf/N%C3%86M2008-151%20Hammervej.pdf

So her parents must have had a house just south of Lov town. [her father Jens Petersen was "husmand" and "høker" - so he had a small house and a grocery business].
"Husmand" is the lowest rural social that still have their own (rented or owned) over their own heads.
Høkers were not rich enough to buy their own town square stall, so they had to travel around their local area peddling their goods.
English has so many names for this: "Peddler", "hawker", "huckster", "costermonger" etc.
So it seems that hawkers dealt originally mostly with textiles. A Danish "høker" was mostly (but not exclusively) connected to selling food.
"Peddler" were used in England for people selling their goods in small rural towns and villages, while the word "costermonger" was used in London for people doing the same in the capital.
"Huckster" is etymological related to "Høker", but became in England a pejorativ for pushy and showy sellers.
So the right word in this context for a Danish høker in Riselod must be translated as "peddler"!

Because of the US immigration record of 1903 we can confidently say that it is the Nancy Hansen Petersen, born in Hammer Sogn (parish) as she is stated living in Sharon Springs.
----------------------------

She actually might have been in Denmark in a period in between her first immigration in 1887 og her marriage in 1897.

As Nancy H Petersen was born in December 1868, this could be her!

Navn:   Petersen, Nancy   Stilling:   Sygeplejerske [= nurse]
Alder:   24   Bestemmelsessted:   N.Y.
Kontrakt nr.:   565900   Forevisningsdato:   12/6/1893 [= 6. December 1893]
Fødested:   ?   Fødesogn:   ?
Sidste oph.sogn:   ?   Sidste oph. amt:   - Amerika
Sidste oph.sted:   Amerika   Bestemmelses land:   USA
Bestemmelses by:   New York City   Bestemmelses stat:   New York State
Skibsnavn:   Indirekte
IDkode:   I9294P5514
Source: https://ddd.dda.dk/udvandrer/udvandr_soeg.asp?navn=petersen%2C+nancy&stilling=&alder=&sidste_oph_sted=&s_sogn=&s_oph_amt=&best_by=&best_stat=&best_land=&kontraktens_nr=&aar=1893&maaned=

So she left Denmark 6. December 1893 travelling to another place [England or Germany] where she boarded a ship for New York as destination.
She is a nurse in this registration and the age fits as she was born 10. December 1868, she would be 24 and had her 25th birthday 4 days later from the departure date!

So the reason she is not in the New York State Census of 1892 could be either that she was in Denmark or that part of the census was lost in the fire of 1911.
Unfortunately we don't know where in Denmark she was staying and were she possibly worked as a nurse?!

Mystery of the 1900 census arrival date of 1890 for Nancy Hansine Petersen/Fredenburg.
Source: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6PSH-48V?i=5&cc=1325221&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AMSGC-3ZX

It states that "Nanci Fredenburg" immigrated in 1890 and she had been in the country for 10 years.
Maybe the guy conducting the census misunderstood something and just asked how long she had been in the US.
She replied 10 years and then he wrote 1890 as immigration date.

When we now know she might have immigrated in 1887 AND 1893; could it be calculated this way for instance.
Arrived in 1887 and went back to Denmark around 1891 -> 4 years.
The she again arrival in late 1893 and was still in US i the census of 1900 -> 6 years.
So that would give 10 years in the US and explained the weird "1890" arrival date.
