Herregård vs Hovedgård

I'm trying understand the distinction between these terms.  I've got ancestors that lived on large manor farms and I've seen them referenced as Hovedgård and sometimes Herregård.  Can anyone help me understand the difference between these terms and which should be used in a place name in my genealogy database?

Here is something in Danish about both terms. It seems like "herregaard" is more slang for "sædegaard" which is a type of "hovedgaard"
