I've found baptism records for Oscar Carl Frederik Berggreen b. 30 May 1872 in both the Copenhagen Sankt Pauls and Trinitatis records for 7 Jul 1872.  In the Trintatis record the birth is not numbered like it is in the Sankt Pauls record.  I am assuming that the actual baptism was at Sankt Pauls and it was also noted at Trinitatis.  What is the notation under the baptism date for Sankt Pauls?

Thanks yet again for any help,

Since 1855 it was possible to 'løse sognebånd' - to become a member of another parish than the parish you lived in; the parents had preferred Pastor V. Nielsen, according to the law of 4.4.[18]55.

There were two 'styles' in the Danish Folkekirke in the 19th century: the more orthodox 'Indre Mission' and the 'Grundtvigianismen', also known of the father of the 'folk high schools' aiming to give farmers' sons an education of modern farming as well as knowledge of Danish history and culture - and farmers' daughters an education of modern household as well as knowledge of Danish history and culture.

The baptism took place 7 Juli 1872 i søndre Sogn, i.e. in the southern (part of Trinitatis) parish: Trinitatis Church

From 1858 to 1877 Sankt Pauls was called Trinitatis Nordre (northern Trinitatis):

Parents address in Kraks Vejviser  (Directory of addresses of residents in Copenhagen, 1770-2007) 1873, page 180. https://user-9y8ca5x.cld.bz/Kraks-Vejviser-1873/180#zoom=z Store Kongensgade # 59, Bygn. E (building E) 1. sal (2nd floor according to US floor numbering): Berggreen A C Kammager (comb maker).

1855-1877 Trinitatis parish was divided in a northern and southern district each with it's own church register.  Children born in the district were given a number in that district's church register but were also entered in the church register of the church where the child was baptized.  But here without number.  The numbering served to calculate the number of births in the parish / district.

In 1872 Store Kongensgade was in the northern part of Trinitatis parish. Later (1877) it became part of Skt. Paul's parish when  Skt. Paul's Church was consencrated.

Wow, quite the history and culture lesson!  Thanks all.

So to recap, the family was living in the northern part of Trinitatis parish where birth records were kept in the church that would become Sankt Pauls, so his birth was counted there.  But the child was baptized in Trinitatis Church (where the family normally worshiped?).  This would make sense since the father's uncle (Andreas Peter Berggreen) was the organist there for many years and likely in 1872.

My family has been very influenced by the movement started by Bishop Grundtvig, as that philosophy was widely embraced by the emigrants to the USA and folk high schools were common in the Danish settlements in America.  One of my ancestors was the gamekeeper at Ronnebaeksholm, the manor of Marie Toft, Bishop Grundtvig's widow.

Thanks again,
Art
