I have been attempting to find the death of my gg grandmother for some time. I recently found an obituary of one of her children which offers a clue.

"John Reimers was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Sept. 4, 1840. The family later removed to Oltrop, where his mother died when he was six years old. He was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Oltrop. He came to America in 1865"

When I search Oltrop no such place comes up.

The family does appear on the 1835,  1840 and 1845 census.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could she be the one you are looking for:

Here John Reimers is applying for a passport for himself and his wife:

His wife is born in Olderup, Germany so this is probably the location they moved to. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olderup

Thanks to both of you. I don't know if it will be any help but on the 1845 census the birth place of Anna Margarethe and all the children is Elsdorf Kirchpiel. The birthplace of Claus Reimers is Rade Amt Rendsburg. Also when I clicked on that this might be her all I got was a link to join Ancestry.com.

Thanks again for all your work.

In the U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedules, 1850-1885 (1870 - Iowa - Scott)
there is listed a Margareth Reimers born in Holstein, Germany.

She died in Soctt, Iowa in June.

Could this be her?
