Hello,

I have discovered that Aalborg has tyendeprotokol. I am trying to learn what information they hold, so I'm starting by looking for Johanne Marie Kathrine Larsen (born August 1865, confirmed in October 1879). In the 1880 census (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid10133768) I see she is a tjenestepige in Horsens sogn in the household of Heinrick Storr. However, she doesn't appear in the tyendeprotokol anywhere near that time, so maybe I'm not understanding what these lists actually represent? The first time I see her is here, in 1888: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=20409999#403273,74608486

Unfortunately I don't understand what each column is supposed to represent or what information I'm being told. Any help would be appreciated, I think if I can get some help figuring her out I can figure my other ancestors out on my own...

Hi Matthew

The columns:
Name
Age and birthplace
Arrival (tilgang)
  Date
Legitimation - prob. last note in the servant's conduct book (skudsmaalsbog)
  From where
  To serve by who
Departure (afgang)
  Date
  Have served by who
  Where to
Remarks (anmærkning)

Thank you,

So if I'm understanding this correctly then, this isn't a list of tyende and where they worked but rather a record of their movements? I am still confused as to why she doesn't appear in 1879/1880 when she would have moved between Vester Hassing and Horsens sogn.

This is a protocol for people working in Aalborg.
Johanne MKL, born in V.Hassing 4.8.65, arrived to Aalborg May 9,1888 from Horsens, with a note in her skudsmaalsbog from V.Hassing 7.6.80 - to the baker Holle - and she departed the same day!! (May 9,1888) to V.Hassing.

Looks very odd. Maybe she didn't present her conduct book to the police (byfoged) when she arrived to Aalborg, only when she left ??

Oh ok, I guess I was confused about the jurisdiction here. I thought Aalborg Byofoged covered the county. In 1884 she is in Horsens, that I know. In 1890, she's in Vester Hassing. In between, I have no clue.

Would she have had to show the book if she was just passing through or only if she was arriving to work?

Correct, this tyendeprotokol is only for the town of Aalborg.

As I understand it, only if she was arriving to work:

Tyendeloven 1854. Tyendeloven med tillæg af uddrag af lov om skudsmålsbøger af 27. januar 1880:
https://h58.dk/ArbErhv/Tyendelov.pdf - p. 20, § 6

Oh ok thank you. That will make for an interesting read.

So, this baker then...is he in Horsens, Aalborg, or Vester Hassing? I can't find anyone with that name in the census.

She must have arrived in Aalborg at some point to work for him, leaving in 1888.

Ah thanks, was looking in the wrong place. So unless she worked for him for all of, say, 10 hours, there is some information missing.
