Sven Aage and Lennarth thank you for your assistance!  I'm hoping that with more experience, I'll be able to recognize more terms and their abbreviations used at different times.  Things are easier after the parish registers were standardized!

I am usually starting with searching through records at Arkivalieronline.  If I feel I've found a record of interest, I usually download it and save that part of the image offline for my genealogy records.  So I've started to attach those image sections with my request for help.  Would it be preferred for me my to post the AO link to the entire page instead?

A link is always better than a clipping - easier to zoom and adjust light and contrast - and to look around on the pages around.

hi again Art,

you're welcome. I also found the record in better quality and with slightly different spelling:
https://www.danishfamilysearch.dk/sogn318/churchbook/source139016/opslag15227313

And here:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?bsid=202410#202410,38366287

It's the so-called kontraministerialbog, whereas the first link is the hovedministerialbog. There's some description about here in Danish:
https://www.sa.dk/da/hjaelp-og-vejledning/rigsarkivets-online-vejledninger/kirkeboeger-kom-godt-gang/

I've corrected the spelling to the text in this version:

Erich, Gaarmanden Christen Erichsens og Magrethe
fød Pedersen ægte Søn af Schodborg med Mette
Kirstine, Gaarmanden Oluf Nissens og Karen
fød Jensen ægte Daatter af Faarkrog.

The word afgangne doesn't even appear in this record, so if the farther's have died or not is unknown.

And a comment to your first post; it sounded like you were in doubt, if this was a marriage record. In the top left corner in the record it says Dies copulat. It's Latin and it means the day of marriage. Copulat is an abbrevation of copulation. You can also find some Latin words here translated into Danish (then you can try to translate from Danish into English):

Kind regards,

Lennarth

Lennarth,

Thank you for your extra effort.  I was fairly certain that this was a marriage record, but it has a different form than most of the later marriage records I've looked at, and some of the words I did not recognize.

How interchangeable were the names Oluf and Ole?  In Mette Kirsten's burial record (16 Apr 1813, Skodborg Sogn, Danmark)  her father's name is listed as Ole Nissen.  Was this a common substitution, or did the priest just get it wrong?

Any ideas on looking for Mette Kirstine's baptism record?  According to her death record, she should have been born circa 1746 and I suspect she was born in Faarkrog Mark.  I believe Faarkrog was part of the Skodborg parish, but searching carefully from about 1740 to mid 1750s I can't find anything.  Since Faarkrog was about midway between Skodborg kirke and Vamdrup kirke, I wanted to look in the Vamdrup records, but they don't appear to exist for those years?

Thanks again for any help,
Art

hi Art,

you're welcome. It's quite common to see names spelled differently in different records. I suppose the names Oluf and Ole are close enough to be considered to be the same in that context even though they're two different names. I've seen several examples of variations in spelling. As an example I've seen the same person with the names Laurs/Laust/Laurids. About the death record of Mette Kirstine it says Fød[t] in Faarkrog, which means born in Faarkrog. Here's the link to the record:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?bsid=455056#455056,81446285

And you're right about that Faarkrog should be in Skodborg parish, but it could as you mention also be in Vamdrup as the location is at the border of the two parishes. Actually, I reckon it could be in a third border as Andst parish also is close to Faarkrog (today spelled Fårkrog), which you can se on the map here:
https://sdfekort.dk/spatialmap

To get the borders of the parishes you can click on Administrative grænser | Sognegrænser and zoom in to Fårkrog. I've also looked in Skodborg parish and didn't find her record. If you search for Fårkrog (Stednavne | by i Rødding), you'll see Fårkrog highlighted with red on the map. And yes, the record for Vamdrup doesn't exist for those years. The books probably burned or something else happened to them. I've briefly looked in Andst parish, but no Mette Kirstine showed up there either. Searching google.dk I found the family on geni.com, but I can see that they had trouble finding her record as well as her date of birth is only stated to be 1746 without any date mentioned:
https://www.geni.com/people/mette-kirstine-olufsdatter/6000000014662903523

I guess in this case you're as far back as you can get with the church records. Looking further back you'd need to search in other sources like for example in a jordebog, but I haven't any experience with that. Link to an explanation of jordebog in Danish:
https://denstoredanske.lex.dk/jordebog?utm_source=denstoredanske.dk&utm_medium=redirectFromGoogle&utm_campaign=DSDredirect

It's a register of properties belonging to a manor. And they can be quite hard to read.

Additional information: link to some of those registers:

Kind regards,

Lennarth
