Hi,

Andreas Christian Andresen (born 18 May 1858) emigrated from Denmark to New Zealand on-board the ship call the Terpsichore aged 17

The Terpsichore ship left Hamburg Nov 1875 and arrived Wellington New Zealand in April 1976
Attached is departure and arrival passenger lists (pdf)

Here is the Copenhagen Police's Immigrant Protocol for him
http://ddd.dda.dk/udvandrer/udvandr_soeg.asp?navn=andresen%2C+andreas+chr&stilling=&alder=&sidste_oph_sted=&s_sogn=&s_oph_amt=&best_by=&best_stat=&best_land=&kontraktens_nr=189600&aar=&maaned=

Here is the last Census entry I have on Andreas Christian Andresen with his mother Ellen Margrethe Nielsen, half-sister Vilhelmine Nielsen and step father Johan Frederik Rosen
1970 Census

And Confirmation for Andreas Christian Andresen in 1972
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL8L-86RL?from=lynx1UIV8&treeref=L44M-4VK

I have his birth documents and other pieces on Andreas prior to 1970/72 and also his natralisation documents (from New Zealand) which confrims the Terpsichore ship. So I don't require any of these.

What I'm after is a possible passenger list or travel document from Copenhagen (place of residence) to Hamburg before he boarded the ship call the Terpsichore in November 1975.

How would he have travelled from Copenhagen to Hamburg in 1875? Train? Boat?

Thanks, Wayne  :)

Helmer Christiansen

He probably traveled by train Copenhagen-Korsør + steamship Korsør-Kiel + train from Kiel to Altona (Altona is today part of Hamburg).
Train from Copenhagen 7 PM to catch the steamship from Korsør at 11 PM. Train early next morning from Kiel to Altona (65 miles).

Thanks for the link to the newspaper archive Helmer.     It'll come in handy for this and other searches.
The date of the newspaper says 31 Dec 1875.
So is this newspaper link (page 4 ,column 5) are examples of common travel from Copenhagen to Altona during that time period?

Thanks, Wayne

On browsing the newspaper archives it reports the Terpsichore steamship departing Stolkholm on the 5th November and was to stop at Nielson before continuing to Hamburg.

Even though the passenger list of the Tersichore records are officially from Hamburg, could passengers be picked up from destinations prior to Hamburg such as Nielsen?

Helmer Christiansen

It was the arrival in Stockholm from Copenhagen Nov 5th of the ship Terpsichore, and Nielsen is the name of the captain of the ship.

Thank you for the clarification... I put it through google translate:)

Maybe not for this situation, but was it known during that time if passengers could be collected from neighbouring ports before the ship set sail from it's official departure port indicated on the passenger list?

You could also travel by boat to Lübeck and then by train to Hamburg.

Another route to Hamburg: The Copenhagen-Korsør railway + ferry across the Great Belt to Nyborg + railway across the island of Funen to Strib + ferry across the Little Belt to Fredericia + railway south through Prussia's newly conquered provinces of Schleswig and Holstein to Altona outside Hamburg.

Today there is a railway tunnel and bridge across the Great Belt and a bridge across Little Belt. Travel time today by train: 4 1/2 hours.
