I am looking for the parents of Anders Larsen. His wife was Kirsten Jensdatter. I'll start with the information I have on their daughter, my ancestor, and then list other information.

His daughter, my ancestor, was Ane Andersdatter, was born 8 July 1798 in Skærum, Horns, Hjørring, Denmark.

Here is a link to her baptism in  Skærum, (it was recorded at the end of the year, the priest must have got things out of order) https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=200741#200741,38017020  At the bottom of the page where if it was in the proper order is a note that says Anders Larsen is of Trøgdrup. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=200741#200741,38017018

Her confirmation in 1814 (Skærum), number 10, she and her father are listed as being of Trøgdrup. https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/sogn405/churchbook/source21707/opslag4406824

Her marriage to Tomas Andersen on the 25th of May 1820 in  Skærum, number 16. Ane is listed as being of Øster. (I believe her father is deceased at this point, more on that later) https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=409712#409712,75901201

1834 census in Skærum. https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid3314409 (Look at image, her mother Kirsten Jensdatter is the first member of the household, the index has them in different households, age 74 and a widow) So Anders was dead by 1834.

Her death in Flade parish, 13 December 1871. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=409755#409755,75902534

-Other children of Anders Larsen and Kirsten Jensdatter.

Maren Andersdatter, born 11 January 1784 in Tornby, Hjørring, number 3 for 1784. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=170601#170601,28645175

Hans Andersen, born 12 November 1786 in Tornby, Hjørring, number 7, last one for 1786. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=170601#170601,28645178

Niels Andersen, born 16 September 1787 in Tornby, Hjørring, number 11. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=170601#170601,28645199

Maren Andersdatter, age 12 in 1801 census (see further) Have not found her baptism, could be the family lived somewhere else between Tornby and Skærum for work.

Karen Andersdatter, confirmation in 1813 in Skærum, number 9, born about 1795, of Trøgdrup, father Anders Larsen of Trøgdrup. https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/sogn405/churchbook/source21707/opslag4406823

Unnamed male, born and died 24 January 1803 in Skærum, Anders Larsen is listed as being of Trøgdrup. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=200741#200741,38017032

-the family in the 1801 and 1787 census

-1801 census in Trøgdrup, Skærum. https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid1522508

Anders Larsen, age 52, married, Husbonde Husmand med jord
Kirsten Hansdatter, female, age 40, married, Hans kone
Hans, age 14, single, deres barn
Maren, age 12, single, deres barn
Karen, age 6, single, deres barn
Ane, age 3, single, deres barn

I believe the census taker incorrectly put down Hansdatter for Kirsten's last name. It is clear Karen, Ane, and unnamed baby all lived at Trøgdrup, and the above family is the only one that fits. Searches for baptisms of the children these ages having a mother named Kirsten Hansdatter (and father Anders Larsen) in Skærum did not produce anything.

-1787 of Kirsten Jensdatter and her children  https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid168111
Kiøbsted Bye, Tornby, Vennebjerg, Hjørring
Jens Nielsen, age 60, married, Mand Bonde Huusmand og Fisker
Kirsten Knudsdatter, age 50, married, Hans kone
Anne Jensdatter, age 12, single, Deres datter
Kirsten Jensdatter, age 26, married, opholdende lever af sine Hænders Geerninger?? (this is the text in the index of danishfamilysearch, I am having trouble reading it)
Hans Andersen, age 1, Hendes Børn
Karen Andersdatter, 4, Hendes Børn  (I believe Karen was reported in error and Maren is correct. Looking at baptisms in Tornby from 1782 to 1784, there are no other Karen or Maren girls born to an Anders.

This is the only family with Kirsten with a son named Hans and daughter Karen/Maren I found in the 1787 census that fits. It was clear the older children were baptized somewhere else than Skærum as no baptisms for them were found there.  (a side question here, would it be reasonable to consider Jens Nielsen and Kirsten Knudsdatter as parents of Kirsten Jensdatter?)

-death of Anders Larsen
28 Oct 1818 in Skærum, age 67, number 8. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=409713#409713,75901210
This death date and age fit for Anders Larsen, the year is also between the confirmation of Ane in 1814 (the last record I have Anders being of Trøgdrup) and the marriage of Ane in 1820, where it appears he is deceased.

I have not located the marriage of Anders Larsen and Kirsten Jensdatter, which I suppose could have happened anywhere

There is an Anders Larsen who is a trader and Kirsten Jensdatter who married in Aggerborg Sogn on the 19th of November 1782. They are still in Aggerborg for the 1787 census and they had a daughter born 2 December 1784 in Aggersborg, so they don't fit. The occupation of the two Anders are all wrong anyway.

My Anders Larsen would likely not be the one born the 25th of October 1750 in Skallerup Sogn (next to Tornby), as there is an Anders Laursen age 36 in the 1787 census in Skallerup married to a Mette Nielsdatter.

Wow, that was long.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

For those who are curious, I believe I have this figured out.

Anders Larsen was married the 5th of October 1783 in Bjergby Sogn. The employer of him and his wife, as well as the best man, was a Jens Jespersen who was a part-time resident of Bjergby and the bailiff of the Nørre Elkær manor in Tversted Sogn. Tversted Sogn has an Anders Larsen who is born in 1751 who fits and seems to disappear. All of the surrounding parishes do not have an Anders Larsen the right age or they are accounted for. Jens must have hired Anders from Tversted Sogn (where he was the bailiff) to work in Bjergby, where Kirsten Jensdatter was hired in to Bjergby from the neighboring parish of Tornby.

Som lever af sine hænders gerning means that she either spins, weaves ,maybe knits or sews for families .
It's a pity you use danish family search, because one cannot show the original census etc. I understand why you are doing it, because it is transcribed....
Try this also: dis-arkivalielister.dk  and census are called "Folketællinger" you find them in the upper left corner click "søg"
At the 1801 census it is written Anders Larsen and Kirsten Hansdatter, but of course the interviewer could have written wrong or they could have told her wrong. It also says they are both in first marriage.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/billedviser?bsid=26821#26821,2909787

You say that Anders disappears. In 1783 he is 32 years, and has probably ended his military service and marry, therefore he has asked for a farm, and the estate owner has rented him one in another area, where he had one free.   I don't know where Nørre-Elkær has their farms spread around, but It might be possible to find Anders here :

https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/billedviser?bsid=329986#329986,66379480

But unfortunately they write, that the record is not available at present.... -and they are not in familysearch.org

to find it again:  dis-arkivalielister.dk,  click: godser, and at the list you will find Elkjær gods, Fæstebreve og hoveriforretning

Grethe Leerbech

I am doubtful about this Ane Andersen you have found dead in Flade parish, because your Ane is separated from her hosband, and that Ane who dies in 1781 is the widow of Johannes Andersen, and your Ane is married one Thomas....
About the son Anders Christian, it is written in the census 1834 that she has been raped: "forført" with a date.

also I am not quite sure its the right people you have found conc. Anders Larsen and Karen Jensdatter......!  it could be that one have written wrong at the censuses  but..... also that you haven't found the other childrens birth

Grethe,

Thank you for the time you put in this.

I posted the Danish Family Search links because you can see the transcriptions and the originals there. It defaults to opening on the Details page, but if you click on "Original Source" tab right after Details, you can see the image of the document there. The Dansk interface, it says "Original Kilde" It's a resource that if the records are transcribed you can see both the transcription and the original in one place. That was my intent.

About Ane Andersen and her children. Yes, I am quite sure they are my people, as you will see below.

Where in the death record in Flade does it say that Ane Andersen is a wife of Johannes? I know I am not fluent in Dansk and can't read every word. But I can see the spouse is listed as Thomas Andersen in the death record dated the 13 of December 1872, Number 21 at the link below.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=409755#409755,75902534

I have the baptisms of the children of Ane Andersen and Thomas Andersen, I just didn't post them here as it was an inquiry about her father. This family takes a long time to explain.

These are their children:

Anders Christian Thomsen who was born 23 May 1822 in Skærum Sogn, dies in Bindslev sogn on the 2nd of March 1825.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=409708#409708,75901127

Johanne Marie Thomasatter, born 22 March 1824 in Bindslev Sogn and dies the 15th of June 1824 in Bindslev Sogn.

Christiane Thomasdatter, born 19 February 1826 in Sindal Sogn and died 9 November 1896 in Flade Sogn. She married Berent Christian Sørensen on the 14th of October 1848 in Gærum Sogn.

(Yes, the parents are wrong on the death record of Christiane. The priest got the identity of Christiane mixed up with a Christiane who died six months in Åsted on the 1st of April 1896.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=173616#173616,29212634

The priest must have worked with both parishes because he still references the correct husband and his death date for the Christiane who died in the Flade Sogn. Berent Christian Sørensen died the 16th of December 1893 in Flade Sogn.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=161839#161839,27189889

Unnamed Thomsen baby, born and died 15 November 1828 in Sindal sogn.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=409947#409947,75908959

Anders Christian Thomsen born 14 April 1830 in Sindal Sogn. (My ancestor, dies in Spanish Fork, Utah, United States on the 30 November 1901) married his first wife Marianne Pauline Jensen (sometimes records say Caroline) the 23 of February 1851 in Gærum Sogn.
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=409947#409947,75908961

Ane Johanne Thomasdatter, born 4 October 1834, in Skærum Sogn, she dies 5 October 1834 in Skærum Sogn. The rape, or whatever happened that is referenced in the 1834 census, would concern this daughter. Thomas Andersen is listed, but maybe there is something in the notes that explains what happened.

Here is Ane Andersen in the 1840 Census in Åsted sogn. https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid4777433
She is with the only two children who lived past a few years. Note that she is still listed as married.

1850 Census for Ane Andersen?  https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid6744795
This one I am not sure about, but everything matches for her;  birthplace, and so forth and looking at the record, her line is crossed out, so she and the widow Lars Jensen may not have every even lived in the same place. They were not married to each other, as he would have been listed as married. (It doesn't really matter because from 1855 onward she lives with her daughter Christiane Thomsdatter)

Ane Andersen and Thomas Andersen were married until his death. Whatever happened around 1834, was resolved. As Ane is always listed as married but never with the husband living with her. Tracking him throughout his life through the levying rolls and two census records, shows he is whatcalled "a married bachelor" in his work. Doing work that is usually for unmarried men, which is always he is always elsewhere. (these were very poor people)

Anders Christian Thomsen went to the probate court and signed on the death of Thomas Andersen. These are definitely the right people because he, Anders, is listed as being of Elling at the time. It is also where he is during the military levying rolls, which I have for him below. The levying rolls also shows he went to Flade. (He also has a daughter born in Flade in 1861, but this is getting long enough as it is.)

(Taken off in 1869.)

Now, having said all that, I realize you may be referring to the births of the two daughters of Anders Larsen and Kirsten Jensdatter, the parents of Ane Andersen whom I don't have births for. This would be the Maren Andersdatter who was was born about 1789 and Karen Anderstatter, who was confirmed in 1813 in Skærum, being born about 1795. Karen is not listed in the baptisms for Skærum, which I take means she was born elsewhere.

As of yet, I have not found any other families that would fit for Anders Larsen and Kirsten Jensdatter of Skærum than the Tornby Sogn family. There are older children in the 1801 census that were not born in Skærum, and the Tornby family, I have not found them in Tornby after 1787. There is also the fact that no children born to an Anders Larsen and Kirsten Hansdatter in Skærum also hints that there may be a mistake in the surname of the census. There is also the marriage of Anders Larsen and Kirsten Jensdatter. The marriage in Bjergby is the only one I have found yet that I can't disprove by tracking the other couples forward in time.

With the potential moves Anders Larsen has taken, from Tversted to Bjergby to Tornby to Skærum; considering how much his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren moved; this wouldn't surprise me.

I have not been able to locate the levying roll for Hans Andersen, who was born in 1786, nor Niels Andersen who was born in 1787 in Tornby or Skærum. If I could link either one of them in the levying rolls going from Tornby to Skærum (including a place in the middle if the family did move elsewhere), then that would be more evidence.

Thank you for telling me about Elkær Gods. I may need to request a search in the archives. Looking in Daisy, they do have the original papers, only 5 pages. (I've ordered things from the Archives before.)

Hi Michael

You are right, I read wrong- so even the danes are able to..... It says Thomas not Johannes!
So it is the right family.
If you aks familysearch, then take care, that in the danish archieve they have changed 2 archieves fro m Elkjær gods. Namely the one with "Fæstebreve og hoveriforretninger" with the one with "Overformynderiet" so this one with 5 cases are NOT the one with "Fæstebreve og hoveriforretnigner" but the other one.
Also about  Danish Family search you are right - I don't use it, so I am not familiar with the setting- I like better the danish ones-but of course they are not transcribed, but I like to read the originals, so it will be my own mistakes, not others if they are wrong transcribed.

I found the child in the middle. Looking at the Skærum 1801 census, I saw Hans Andersen was the only boy with his name and age in the whole sogn.

In the 1796 Levying Roll, there is just one, and he is Hans, son of Anders Blaas, age 10, born in Kiøbsted. (the place the family lived in Tornby)

Following Hans backwards, in 1795 he is in Astrup parish, and there is a brother named Lauritz listed who was born in 1792 that was listed as having died in 1795.

Looking for his baptism in Astrup, turns up the only Lauritz who was baptized 19 November 1792, who is a son of Anders Larsen. (Thank goodness Lauritz's baptism had the father's surname.)

Looking in Astrup, I find the baptisms of the missing sisters.

Maren Andersdatter, baptized 10 October 1790 to Anders Blaas.

Karen Andersdatter, who was baptized 21 June 1795, daughter of Anders Blaas. https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/sogn422/churchbook/source130938/opslag14003744

Here I have the entire Levying rolls for Hans Andersen. He certainly moved many times like other members of the family.

So I have all of the kids connected now. I would like to find more evidence that the father Anders Larsen is the one born in Tversted. Though it is reasonable from the marriage and who his employer and best man is to conclude that.

Et lille sidespring.

Grethe, hvad får dig til at tro, at Danish Family Search ikke er dansk?

Det er "vi" da i allerhøjeste grad - og indtastningerne er indtastede af danskere.

Venligst  :)
