Hello,

I have the birth record for my Niels Peder (Pedersen) Hornbech and I think it says he was illegitimate but then it looks like the mother is introduced as "hustru".  Niels Peder was born 26 Jun 1812 in Århus Vor Frue, Hasle, Århus, Denmark and baptised 23 Aug 1812.

Baptism right side of the page here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17128524#173497,29187769

Niels Peder Hornbech dies 13 Dec 1884 in Århus Domsogn, Hasle, Århus, Denmark.

Death #187 here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=21618747#383638,74063581

I want to ask because his parents, Peder Nielsen and Anna Marie Christensdatter do not marry until 6 Dec 1816 in Århus Domsogn, Hasle, Århus, Denmark so I am confused.  Anna Marie Christensdatter was previously married to a Jakob Meier Pedersen.

Marriage #23 here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=21618747#392483,74305358

The couple may have had an illegitimate daughter Jakobine Kirstine Marie 23 Mar 1815 but it looks like she might be the daughter of Jakob Meier Pedersen, the 1st husband of Anna Marie Christensdatter (I cannot locate his death record)?  I cannot decipher the birth record except that I thought it said the "barns fader" is Peder Nielsen Hornbech.

Birth #36 here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=173227#173227,29110800

The couple had another son Jakob 26 May 1817 in Århus Domsogn, Hasle, Århus, Denmark.  This child died shortly after birth on 1 Jun 1817.  The father is Peder Nielsen Horbech and Anna Marie Christensdatter.

Birth #36 here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=21618747#392492,74305524

Is anyone able to make sense of all of this?

Inger Toudal

Baptism 1812:

Soldat og Skræder Peder Nielsen og Hustru Ane Marie Christens-
datter deres Søn Niels Peter ...

Illegitimate children were recorded separately: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17128524#173497,29187459

Baptism 1815:

Uægte.
Jacobine Kierstine Marie.
Ane Marie Christensdatter,
afdøde Soldat Jacob Petersens
Enke, hos Nagelsmeden paa Sko-
legade. Til Barnefader blev ud-
lagt Skierslipper Peder Nielsen
Hornbek.

Must be an error that Ane Marie is recorded as Peder Nielsen's wife in 1812.

So he is legitimate in 1812?  The page number looks like 398 which falls within the pages 375-402 for legitimate births.

And if that is his birth in 1812, as I think it is, then why did the parent's marriage not take place until 6 Dec 1816?

His confirmation lists the parents as I expected: Peder Nielsen Hornbech and Anna Marie Christensdatter.

Confirmation #232 here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=21618747#392504,74305944

Or maybe I need to go back and look for a marriage thinking that there are just two couples with the same name?  But then that does not tie in with the illegitimate birth of Jakobine Kirstine Marie in 1815.

Page 441 looks like Public Absolving? Here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17128524#173497,29187774

And I do not see his birth in the register for 1812 for illegitimate/Public Absolving. Here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17128524#173497,29187786

The other thing of note is that Peder Nielsen Hornbech is listed as "ungkarl" for his marriage so he has not been married before.

- Spurii  'illegitimate children'

Jacobine Kirstine Marie's confirmation 1830: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=21618747#392521,74306345 - No 21

- her parents are listed as man and wife (Hst = Hustru).

I still think, that it's a mistake that Niels Peter's parents are listed as married at his birth 1812.

I think so too which means it must have also been a mistake that he was recorded under legitimate births instead of the illegitimate pages.
