Hello,

In the notes column for the birth of Erling (Andersen) Svelle 25 Aug 1923 in Thorshøj, Torslev, Dronninglund, Hjørring, Denmark it seems to indicate that he was adopted 23 Jun 1931 by Lage Thomas Christian Olesen and his wife Agnes Viola Gerhards? in Brønderslev City Parish, Hjørring.

Birth record #20 here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17127196#170650,28650960

I am not clear why he would be adopted at the age of 7 when both of his parents were still alive (his father Harald Evald Svelle lived to 1967 and his mother Ellen Paulsen died 1937 in Kobenhavn).  He appears to have had a brother, Erik Svelle, who dies in 1932 but I could never find a record.

Am I reading the notes correctly?

I have discovered that there was another child born to Harald Evald (Andersen) Svelle and Ellen Paulsen.

According to the 1940 Census he was born in København 12 Apr 1937 but I cannot locate the record.

Given the fact that his mother died a month later I presume she died from complications from childbirth.

In addition, there are comments in the birth register for the daughter, Gunver Elisabeth Svelle born 10 Mar 1918, but it does not look like she was adopted.

Another odd thing about this couple, Harald and Ellen, is that they do not appear to have had any children after their 3rd child in 1923 until the 4th child in 1937.  This is such an uncommon gap.

Thank you for finding those Gitte.  I definitely would not have thought to look there.

I wonder why one son was adopted out and he kept the youngest.
