I'd like to request translation of a baptismal record at http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?side=53&bsid=155661 for Maren, entry #2 on the left.  I'm trying to figure out if she is Maren Nielsdatter from the 1801 census in Tersløse, age 40 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid1599434), married to Rasmus Pedersen.  They were probably married before 1792 when son Peder was born.  Thanks very much.

Hello Kerry.

The Danish text:
af Tersløse
Dom: 2 p: Trin: døbt Lars Kaares Datter i Tersløse,
og kaldet Maren - Niels Bentsons Hustru bar
det - Faddere Mads Christensen, Hans Kaare,
'Niels Saugskierer, alle af Tersløse -

In English:
2nd Sunday after Trinity baptised Lars Kaares daughter in Tersløse,
and called/named Maren - Niels Bensons wife
[was the Godmother"] - witnesses Mads Christensen, Hans Kaare,
Niels Saugskierer, all of Tersløse

"Saugskierer" / Savskærer in moderne Danish - is a man working in a sawmill, cutting up trees into planks.
"Kaare" is a name in the same category as "Dyhr" - an extra name besides a patronym. The meaning of "Kaare" could be "kårde", which is a rapier.

The name Benson can be correctly spelled - could as well be Ben(t)søn / Bentsen. Benson would in most cases be considered finer as Bentsøn/Bentsen.

Lars Kaare is probably Lars Nielsen Kaare mentioned at Familysearch - https://ancestors.familysearch.org/en/K1DC-RQW/lars-nielsen-kaare-1732-1776 - who died in Tersløse in 1776.
Lars Nielsen Kaare´s widow could have remarried - meaning that Maren Nielsdatter got at stepfather.

Hi Lars,

Thanks so much for your help and explanations.  It doesn't look like I found the right record.  She would be Maren Larsen, not Maren Nielsdatter, if Lars Nielsen Kaare was her father, wouldn't she?

You´re wright. You should look for a Maren with a father called Niels - UNLESS her father carries Nielsen as a surname, not at patronym.

This is a follow-up.  I'm confused by this 1787 census entry, https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid595324, where a Maren Nielsdatter is listed as "Deres Børn af dette ægsteskab" of Ole Nielsen Kaare and Kirsten Jensdatter.  The phrasing "Deres Børn af dette ægsteskab" appears to be common for this census taker.

In this time period of patronymic naming, I don't understand how Maren Nielsdatter would be the daughter of Ole Nielsen Kaare.  I believe it's true based on the baptism entry, but can anyone explain why?  Thank you.
