Hi,

I'm Wayne Norton

We live in Australia and are researching my wife's side of the family tree.

We are trying to find out details  around the Andreas Christian Andresen family.
In particulr his correct parents and to identify the passenger list or lists with date that Andreas Christian Andresen travelled on from Denmark to New Zealand.
Andreas is my wife's great great grandfather.

This is the information I have, but I'm not sure what is correct before Andreas arrived in New Zealand
Andreas Christian Andreson was born in Denmark 18 May 1858 and died in New Zealand 14 September 1942 as Andrew Christian Andersen.

These is the sources I have on Andreas Christian Andresen:
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/L44M-4VK

This is said to be his Andrea's mother:
Born on 28 August 1832 as Ellen Margrethe Nielsdatter
When Ellen gave birth to Andreas in 1848 her married name is said to be Ellen Margrethe Nielsen. Although Ellen Nielsen's birth year now says 1835 instead of 1832.
Are these two names of Ellen the same person?

These are the sources on Ellen Margrethe Nielsdatter and Ellen Margrethe Nielsen.
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/LCZ7-1YM
1834 Danish Census: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid3349446
1840 Danish Census: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid4178866

I can't find the mothers death records or source details on the father.
Some say the father and son have the same name Andreas Christian Andresen, but I'm not sure if the link here (below) to Andreas Christian Andreson's father is correct as there are no sources:
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/LCZ7-1PL

I read that Andreas Christian Andreson boarded a ship on the called Turpiscor in Hamburg Germany on the 10th November 1875, and migrated to New Zealand?
Where would I find this passenger list to see if the ship he travelled on is correct and if it was direct to New Zealand or maybe Australia.

Here is an old 2008 forum reference I also found on Andreas Christian Andresen that has some prevoius researh:
https://www.dis-danmark.dk/forum/read.php?11,475878
I don't know Jan Andersen from this forum post to find out more

I appreciate any help or references.

Thank You, Wayne

The journal for handing the child to the mother can be found here. Andreas stands at the bottom of the page. Here you can see that the mother is 26 years old and was born in Tikøb.

Number 60 could be the mother:

It is the only Ellen Margrethe in a range of 4 years in Tikøb. So it can't be other than the right person.

Thank you Helle for the information on the mother :)

It reassures me if I research Ellen Margrethe Nielsdatter's parents I will be following the correct family path back on Andreas's mother's side.
There doesn't seem to be any evidence of Andreas's father, so this will have to be left an unknown person.

I also just found the New Zealand natralisation document reference for Andreas Christian Andresen with his date of birth. This helps link Andreas going from Denmark to New Zealand.

Thank you again Helle for the references. It helps a lot.

Cheers, Wayne

Hi Wayne,

The mother Ellen Margrethe Nielsdatter *28.8.1832 and the child Andreas Christian Andresen *18.5.1858 are listed in the Almisseprotokol [protocol of alms support by the local community] – second family in the list

Thank you Britta for the Emigration information from København.  :D  The details all appear to match and now I also managed to find the passager arrivals list in Welling to New Zealand.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-68RQ-X2D?i=9&cc=1609792&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AFSYV-G3V
This all now proves his travel path.
No other famlily (mother etc) appear on the arrivals passenger list . So I most likely Andreas C Andresen came on his own.
Are there any other family names in the Almisseprotokol {protocol of alms support by the local community]. I don't reconised the other words in the list beside Andreas and Ellen.

Thanks for the censous references Helle :D  So that means Ellen Margarthe also had another child in addition to Frederikka Vihelmine Hansen in 1855
Vilhelmine Nielsen   Female   2   Single   1868    Daughter

Helle Jespersen

No other names are listed in the Almisseprotokol. She left the "care system" (Forsorg) in 1861
She had then been in this help system for 3 years.

Concerning the Census reference, yes, Ellen Margrethe had a daugther in 1868 called Vilhelmine. She also was born in Copenhagen.
In the census 18870 it also says that the mother again had help from the care system (Forsorg)

I'm not sure that I'm using the right english word for this.

Hi Helle,

Thanks for confirming this.
Yes the English word is right.. In Australia we may also refer to it as 'welfare'

All this new information has been very helpfull and given enough proof that this family line is the correct one.
I'm statisfied with what I know about Andreas and Ellen and will start looking the next family in this line.

Again thank you Helle and Bitta's for your kind guidance.  :)
As we as the new family information discovered, I now know more Danish sources reference website to look for other family members.

Cheers, Wayne
