Indlæg af: Mia Gerdrup Dato 23 Okt 2011 - 17:01
This page is normaly used to seek for danish ancestors.
With this I will try to use it to find descendants in US.

The Neble family lived for generations i Stubbekøbing, Falster, Denmark.
Neble's became at big familiy, - many of them shoemakers, or other craftsmen.
About 1880 -1905 many family members went to USA, - among them Sophus Neble, who became editor af "The Danish Pioneer".

I'm working on a family tree for the Neble-family, and I would like to get in contact with decendants in US.

My own connection to the family: my g-g-g-grandfathers sister married af Neble in 1811.

I have looked on FamilySearch, Ellis Island and US census, and have found some Neble's. But it's at bit difficult, becouse some Neble's change their danish birthname to something "american". Often the birth year isn't exactly.

I would be happy to get in touch with anyone who knows about any Neble from Denmark now living in US.

Boline Sophie Neble (b. 10 OCT 1849) and husband Martin Cornelius Jensen (a ship's captain) lived at Vestergade 23 from 1890-1923 I believe; the property I think was previously owned by John Neble and occupied by Jens Peter Neble (Boline Sophie's father I think), shoemaker. Does this sound familiar? Is it correct??? Martin Jensen is the brother to my great-great grandfather's first wife (not my ancestor), Maren Bodil Eline Jensen (1846-1887). This couple also lived on Vestergade in Stubbekøbing.

I could tell you about Maren's descendants in the USA - but unfortunately they are not Nebles.

At least now you have one hello! from America.

Nice to meet you!

Mvh

Sophus Neble b 15 DEC 1859 in Stubbekobing lived in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

1900 Census Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska
Sophus Neble 40 immigrated 1883
Christine Neble 36 married 1884
Sophus Neble 13
Eywin Neble 8
Francis Neble 6
Elsie Christiansen 19

Along with Sophus Frederick Nebel's considerable accomplishments, the achievement of John Neble of Omaha are also noted in a book of Omaha history - were they were brothers?

A lead worth investigating - There was a John L. Neble who was a judge in Omaha.
He married Angeline Hansen 15 MAY 1871 in Nebraska.
CHILDREN:
Anne Neble born 1894 in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska
Mark Neble born 4 AUG 1896 in Nebraska

My only source for this is an online tree:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=shanahan1&id=I2748

THe Danish Brotherhood website lists John L. Neble died 17 March 1926 age 65 in USA and was born in Stubbekobing.

Beside John on the list is Louis H. Neble who died 15 October 1960 age 70 born in Omaha Nebraska.

Beside Louis is our same Sophus F. Neble died 09 Jan 1931 born in Stubbekobing.

Parenets of Sophus Neble were Martin and Karen (Poulsen) Neble.

Same parents for John Louis Neble - so they were brothers, per IGI.
per IGI, John Louis Neble was born 16 JAN 1861 in Stubbekjobing, , , Denmark, died 17 MAR 1926   Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska, buried 21 March.

Daughter to Sophus Neble, Frances, married Dr. Glen Miller in Omaha, per online biography of Sophus F. Neble. By the say Sophus senior was married twice.

Son Eywind Neble was born 10 Aug 1890 and died in Nebraska Mar 1965 (SSDI)

Sophus F. Neble traveled back to Denmark in 1895, with son Sophus, age 10; record on Ancestry.com
The son Sophus F. Neble (junior) born 08 October 1886 in Nebraska died in Los Angeles, California, 07 Aug 1970 per record on Ancestry.com
The whole family went to Denmark in 1906 (Sophus, Olivia, Sophus, Eywind, Frances). Per Ellis Island record:

http://www.ellisisland.org/shipping/FormatTripPass.asp?sship=United%20States&BN=P00227-8&lineshipid=925&shipid=

In 1910 census in Omaha Sophus junior is married to Anna, age 19.
per social security death index (SSDI) an Anna Neble dies Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, 14 March 1993; she was born 5 Oct 1893.
In 1930 census in Omaha, Sophus (junior) and Anna have a daughter Dorothy age 19 (born about 1911).
Dorothy Neble born 28 Sep 1910 died 26 Apr 2007 in Los Angeles; her social security number was issued in Nebraska. So maybe Dorothy never married.

Per IGI a Hans Neble married Mathilde Johanne Rehne 09 FEB 1889 in Douglas County, Nebraska.
A U.S. passport application 10 Apr 1914 for Hans P. Neble says he's born in Stubbekobing, Denmark, 08 October 1863. Spouse Marie. In 1930 he was on a ship (the Amerika) that departed Copenhagen and arrived Los Angeles, California 12 September. He's with Marie, says he was naturalized in Omaha Nebraska 1891, and now lives at 522 Avondale Avenue, Brentwood Heights Station, Los Angeles.
In 1930 census in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska Hans P. Neble has a daughter Maude A.

Maude Alice Neble born 12 Jun 1894 in Omaha and lives in Omaha 1914 applies for a passport 10 Apr 1914 - same as her dad.

I think the Nebles in Brooklyn, New York, are also a good bet as a lot of people from Stubbekobing area are there.

Hi again - one more note!

You say: "Many Nebles went to the USA..."

If you know their names, would be good to list them now.

I'm assuming you have much (or some) of what I've entered above - but can help forum members to help you.

Okay, that's it for now! :D

I have many family photos of the Nebles and a few paintings, including a wonderful self portrait of a handsome dark eyed man who resembles my father. The painiting is signed Neble and is dated 1916. I am very curious about my family and there is no one left to tell me much about them. I would love to have contact with anyone who knew my grandparents or great-grandparents or assorted great uncles or aunts. - submitted by andrea neble cook on 05/14/2011

Thanks Paul! and the upload worked. : D

I have to stop - this family is just so interesting!

Angeline Hansen married John L. Neble (judge in Omaha) September 1893.
from Wikipedia:
The Angeline Hanson Neble House is located at 2752 South 10th Street in South Omaha, Nebraska. Built in 1894 in the French Second Empire style, the house was designated an Omaha Landmark on November 18, 1980. It is one of very few examples of the French Second Empire style remaining in Omaha today.

Hi,

Found in the index of the Danish "Krak Blue Book" (Krak Blå Bog) Sophus R. Neble mentioned, editor, born 15 Dec 1858 - died 8 Jan 1931, which means that you will be able to read about him in the 1930 edition.

Thank you so very much!

To Lisa - I will look at the "blå bog".

To Jane - so many new information, thanks!

The List of Neble's who went to US (what I know!):
Sophus Neble - the person I know most about. He were often in Denmark on holiday. He was a well known person in Denmark, and its possible to follow him by reading the local newpapers. I have seen newpaper articels such as: "Mr. Sophus Neble has now left New York and his expected to arrive in Denmark..." - a little bit like gossip.

Other Neble's who left for USA:
Alexander Neble, - according to FamilySearch he died 1911 and left wife Christina and 3 children. What happened, - and what about the widow and children?

Hans Peter and John L.(in Denmark Johan Louis) are brothers to Sophus - but the informations
about there wife's and children are new.

Harald Neble - Him I had found.

At FamilySearch there's a Walter Nebel - Perhaps he's alias Johan Ludvig Valdemar Neble, born 1868 in Denmark? Walter wore married and divorced to Sena ? Children Alfred, Irene, Emma og Ella.

and Poul Eggert Neble?

Rita Neble?

The problem is - I really don't know exactly which of the Neble who left Denmark......

And yes - I know about Boline Sophie Neble and Martin Cornelius. Perhaps I should send a mail about their history?

To Paul - Christian Christiansen - He's a mystery. More work - but thank you.

It's late here in Denmark, - i'l stop for now.

Hi Mia -

okay is this the Alexander you mean? per Family Search:

Alexander Cumann Neble
b 24 Sep 1861 in , STUBBEKOBING, MARIBO, DENMARK
Father Christian Henrik Neble; mother Elvina Augusta Sophie Cumann
maybe this Alexander died?

1900 in New York City is Alexander Neble b Nov 1871 Denmark; spouse Christina (born 1877 in Denmark); child Elvina - thus this seems like he should be the son of Elvina Augusta Sophie Cumann

1910 in Brooklyn its Alexander 39 and Christina 33 with Alvina 11, Lillian 7, and Agnes Neble 2.

Okay, so this is fitting with what you said. :"D

Alexander Neble 1905 going back to US after trip to Denmark w wife Christine and daughters Elvina, Lillian. Lillian is just ten months old. I guess they will show the babies to the family at home! The Nebles live at 411 Hays Street, Brooklyn, King's County, New York. - Ancestry.com

Alexander I. Neble 1911 estate in probate, King's County.

In 1920 Christina, 41, is still in Brooklyn with her three girls. They live at 265 Grand Avenue. They have two lodgers with them - William and Bernard Schnurr of Austria. Christina is a nurse in private practice. Elvina, age 20, is a stenographer for an insurance company. Lillian, 16, and Agnes, 11, don't work.

Don't see just now what became of them beyond that...will take more looking. Maybe the above will help you find more.

Sometimes a widow will go home to Denmark.

Here's are some Nebel households in Brooklyn, of German extraction (the ones I've checked)

Kansas Historical Collections
Excerpt from an article written 1928 by Thomas Peter Christensen (whole article at link above)
An interesting Danish colonization project was the ill-starred and short-lived Socialist colony near Hays City, in Ellis county. It was begun and ended in 1877. The leaders were Louis Albert Francois Pio, Paul Geleff, and W. A. Hansen.[7] All were Socialists who had been forced, or at least found it advisable, to leave Denmark. There were eighteen colonists, some married and some single. They at once set to work to build a log cabin with separate apartments for the married and the unmarried. Tools and stock were purchased. The men worked "like hell." The women quarreled. And the naked prairie--save for an abundance of buffalo bones, rattlesnakes, prairie dogs, owls and an occasional soldier--seemed so unresponsive to the demands for a better social order, that the colonists could stand it no longer than six weeks. The property was then sold and the proceeds divided among the colonists, netting each some thirty dollars.
In spite of the failure of the colony, the colonists succeeded--some in Kansas and others elsewhere. They were not incurable visionaries, but able to adjust themselves to new conditions. Both Pio and Geleff were gifted journalists and succeeded as land agents. Mrs. Pio was one of the most talented of Danish immigrant women. She lectured occasionally to Danish audiences--in 1896, for instance, on "the full and unlimited coinage of silver." A daughter of the Pios married a Danish count from whom, however, she was later divorced. Hansen had a substantial business career in Chicago. A daughter of his married the Danish socialist, Sophus Neble, who is still the editor of the Danish Pioneer, a Danish weekly published in Omaha and reputed to have a circulation of over thirty thousand, larger than that of any other Danish-American publication.

Johan Ludvig Neble 28, clerk, arrived New York 19 Nov 1888 on ship Hekla.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And some I don't see mentioned:

Arnold Fredrik David Neble born 1882, merchant and manufacturer, made at least ten trips between NY and Copenhagen 1912-1926 and appears to have maintained dual residence Denmark and U.S.

He listed his mother Mary Neble, 12 Frederik IV's Alle, Copenhagen as nearest relative, and his birthplace as Nykøbing.

He had a wife Karen born ca. 1894 and a daughter Grethe born ca. 1914, both in Copenhagen.

In 1918 draft he registered as a N Y City merchant with New Jersey residence (attached).

I do not find them in U.S. censuses so maybe in Denmark 1920.

Immanuel Theophorus Neble born ca. 1870 Denmark, bookbinder, arrived NY 19 Aug 1889 on ship Hekla.

I do not find him in U.S. censuses so maybe changed his name.

From the Danish Immigrant Museum, a biography of Sophus Neble that says he went ahead to USA, then he "sent for his mother and brothers," as well as for the girlfriend he wanted to marry. Also says that Sophus brothers (John and Hans) helped to run the newspaper Den Danske Pioneer.
By the way, my uncle still gets this newspaper. : D

Hej Mia, This explains why Sophus's son Eyvind was at Springfield, Nebraska, when his son Bud was born. Also Sophus F. Neble married, 24 April 1884, Miss Christine Larsen and that she died died 07 August 1900. On 06 December 1901, he married Miss Olivia Hansen of Chicago. Also tells more about his sons. Olivia Hansen's father was part of that radical socialist Danish colony in Kansas (I posted a story). A Mark Hansen started Den Danske Pioneer - relative?

Sophus F. Neble was educated in public schools, learned typesetting and other branches of the printing trade in his native town, and after completing his apprenticeship was employed in the government printing office at Copenhagen. He also learned the dairy business in Denmark. It was with training in both these arts and trades that he arrived in America in 1883. For a time he worked on a farm in Wisconsin, but in the fall of the same year came to Omaha. He began his career with the Den Danske Pioneer as a typesetter, at the end of three months was made foreman, in two years became assistant editor, later chief editor, and since 1887 has been publisher and owner of that newspaper. He has developed a complete printing plant not only for his newspaper but for miscellaneous printing of literature in the Danish language and general printing, and his business is one that covers several of the middle western states. His paper is one with practically a world wide circulation, several thousand copies of every issue going back to Denmark and to other foreign countries. Colonel Neble holds his military title through service, with the rank of colonel, on the staff of several governors in Nebraska. He has long been interested in farming, and the Neble stock farm, located near Springfield, Nebraska, contains several hundred acres and has been pointed out as a model institution of its kind, and which farm was sold by Colonel Neble a few years ago. Colonel Neble has been active in the Democratic party, and several times has been presidential elector on the national ticket. A number of honors have come to him as a leading Danish-American citizen. He delivered the principal address at Danish Day at the Panama Exposition at San Francisco in 1915. He is a member of a number of Danish societies, belongs to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, B. P. O. Elks, and is a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. Colonel Neble was a director of the Nebraska National Bank until it was sold to the First National of Omaha. He served five years as county commissioner of Douglas County. The Colonel married, April 24, 1884, Miss Christine Larsen. She was born in Denmark and died August 7, 1900. She was the mother of a large family of children, the three to reach mature years being: Sophus F., Jr., who was born at Omaha in 1886, became a lawyer, and has served as state oil and food inspector of Nebraska and is now presiding municipal judge of Omaha; Eyvind, born at Omaha in 1889, at one time was manager of his father's truck farm; and Frances, born in 1894, is the wife of Dr. Glenn Miller, of Omaha. Colonel Neble, on December 6, 1901, married Miss Olivia Hansen, of Chicago.

Nebraska: the Land and the People: Volume 2
Louis H. Neble was born in Omaha, on the 16th of January, 1890, and is a son of Hans P. Neble, who has long been one of the sterling and honored citizens of Omaha, with the civic and business affairs of which city he and two of his brothers have been prominently identified. Hans P. Neble was born and reared in Denmark, whence he came to the United States and established his residence in Omaha in 1886, he having here continued his home during the long intervening years. He became associated with his brother Sophus in the purchase of the plant and business of the Danish Pioneer, which was here founded in 1872, by Mark Hansen, who was one of the honored Danish pioneers of Nebraska. The Neble brothers thus secured control of the Danish Pioneer in the year 1877, and they have continued to be associated in the ownership and publishing of this excellent weekly paper to the present time, though by reason of impaired health Hans P. Neble has recently withdrawn from the active service that had long been his portion and assigned the management of the business to Louis H. Neble, the immediate subject of this review. A third brother, John L., likewise became connected with the Danish Pioneer, with which he continued his alliance until his death, March 24, 1926, he having served for several years as a member of the Omaha Park Commission.
Louis H. Neble is a loyal and appreciative citizen of Omaha, where he has continuously maintained his home from the time of his birth to the present and where he is effectively upholding the civic and business prestige of the family name. He was graduated from the Central High School as a member of the class of 1907, and had been a prominent and popular figure in the athletics of the school, especially as a member of its baseball team. After completing his high school course Mr. Neble served a four years' apprenticeship to the jeweler's trade, but this work so affected his vision that he had to abandon the trade. He thus, in 1911, became actively associated with the Danish Pioneer, where he gained practical experience in virtually all departments and details of the business and eventually won advancement to his present offices of vice president, manager and treasurer of the Sophus F. Neble Publishing Company.  Mr. Neble was president of the Danish Brotherhood Bowling League in his native city, and has the further distinction of being president of the Nebraska State Bowling League, also president of the Omaha City Bowling Association, preferments that stand in evidence of his skill in the manipulations of the balls and pins and also indicate his personal popularity in bowling circles. In 1925 Mr. Neble made the highest score in the Danish Bowling League, his best score having been 297 and he having made eleven consecutive strikes on the occasion of his gaining the highest score of the local league. He is an active member of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the Ak-Sar-Ben, the Danish Brotherhood, the Omaha Danish Association, and the Council Bluffs Country Club, at the links of which he finds seasonable indulgence in golf. He is a democrat in his political proclivities, and he and his wife are communicants of the Danish Lutheran Church. October 29, 1915, marked the marriage of Mr. Neble and Miss Helen Rossen, who was born and reared in Omaha and whose parents were born in Denmark. Mr. and Mrs. Neble have no children. Mr. Neble was formerly drum-major of the crack band of the Fourth Infantry Regiment of the Nebraska National Guard, and for fifteen years he was the successful and popular leader of the Neble Concert Orchestra. He is a talented musician, and is able to play effectively a large number of varied musical instruments. He has thus been a prominent figure in musical circles in his native city, and takes deep interest in all that tends to advance the "divine art" in his home community.

Hi Jane,

Again thank you.

I'm specially happe for this:

Here on Ancestry.com is the mother - Karen "Carrie" Paulsen Neble - in Omaha in 1900 with son John L. John's job is "manager, newspaper." The name is transcribed as "Noble."

I have searched for Karens dead, but couldn't find it. But offcourse she went to USA with her 3 sons.
Her husband Martin Hans Jørgen Neble died in the war between Germany and Denmark at the big battle april 1864 at Dybbøl. He's body was never found. Karen/Carrie became widow with 3 small children - Sophus b. 1858, Johan/John b.1861 and Hans Peter b. 1863.
Perhaps that's why they all worked so hard to get a good life in USA.

And i'm updating, updating........

Homer - Thank for the information!
You have been given me lots of news specially about Arnold Neble!

You will not hear anything from me for the next 3-4 days.  There are some birthday celebrations and lots of work, - not genealogy, but the kind of work where you earn money :-)

Okay, Mia, I won't expect a response until later.

But I'm uploading stuff I found bit by bit....Here's a little more.

John L. Neble born in Denmark and brother to Sophus F. and lived in Omaha
married Angeline Hansen
Angeline's father was Mark Hansen, who started Den Danske Pioneer!

Here they are in
1880
Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska
Mark Hanson 50 b MAY 1830 (per 1900 census) occupation EDITOR
to USA 1860; married 1864 (per 1900 census)
Anna 37 (Annie Maren Nielsine Nielsen per IGI) (to USA 1857 per 1900 census)
Angelen 9
Andreas 5

In 1900 Mark Hanson, Anna Hanson, and Andy Hansen live in Omaha
next door to
John L. Neble, Angeline, with children Emma, and Mark  - and Carrie age 70 (the mother) Carrie has been in USA 10 years, census says.
In 1894: John L. Neble and Angeline had daughter Anna Karen Neble 31 AUG 1894 in Omaha; she died 23 NOV 1925. Maybe I said that before but I hadn't noticed the middle name.

Thora Rasmussen was not his wife.  A married woman used their husband's surname when emigrating, and were listed as a wife even when not accompanied by their husband.  Thora and children were probably joining a husband and father who had emigrated earlier, as was common then.

Here is Hans' and family in Omaha, including the son Louis who you posted the long bio of:

Sophus Neble's "Scurrilous Attacks" on the Danish Royal Family

At one time the Danish paper "Den Danske Pioner," edited by Sophus F. Neble, contained some very scurrilous and scandalous attacks on the royal family of Denmark, particularly on the crown prince, Frederik. A large number of copies of the paper were sent from Omaha, Neb., and distributed broadcast in Denmark. At court they were very much worried and excited over this. In Europe they have what is called the lex magnatum, prohibiting any attack on a royal person. In Europe the king can do no wrong and no criticism whatever is permitted. In the United States there is no lex magnatum and the only way to reach Mr. Neble was for the injured party to bring suit just like any other private individual. The crown prince complained bitterly to Mr. Vedel in the foreign office and requested him to bring the matter to my attention, thinking that the United States government might take the offender to task and punish him. At the request of the crown prince I called on him and heard his tale of woe. I explained to him as well as I could the legal situation, assured him of my sympathy, but did not feel that I could recommend him to institute a personal suit in the American courts, though he doubtless would win an easy victory over 34 his calumniator. "Den Danske Pioner" was excluded from the Danish mails. The copies that arrived were destroyed. After my conference with the crown prince I laid the whole matter before Secretary Thomas F. Bayard in Washington and recommended to him that he write his views on the subject in the form of a personal letter to me, which I might read to the crown prince and then hand it to him to keep. Mr. Bayard acted on my suggestion. In due time I received an eight-page letter on the subject. In this letter Mr. Bayard strongly recommended the crown prince not to go into court; for that he was too exalted a person. He requested me to remind the crown prince that the lightning usually strikes the tallest trees in the forest and that assaults of the kind made by the Omaha editor were among the penalties of greatness. I asked for an audience with the crown prince and got it. I took Bayard's letter with me and read it to him. When I came to the passage about the lightning striking the tallest trees and of the penalties of eminence the crown prince burst into tears and fairly smothered me with his kind words of appreciation of what I had done. He asked me if I would not let him have a copy of that letter. I said: "The original is yours, your royal highness, if you care to keep it." I handed it to him and I am sure he took good care of it, and thus ended the episode.

English translation, if anybody should be interested in the part of the Neble family who stayed in Denmark:

Dear all of you!
I've been sick,  - which means I have to work extra now - real work, not genealogy.

While I was sick I didn't check this website for any news.
And additionally, I have not received any mail from this web about your answers. Which I should have......

I'm sorry, but now I've read all your new posts.
So many news and exciting information.
Once again I'll try to update the family three.
It's very overwhelming.
Thanks to all!
Sorry,- it took so long.

Hej Mia,

I have found the following information on two of the daughters of Alexander Neble.

Elvina Neble married married Adolph Groetzinger in Brooklyn, New York on 11 Dec 1920.

I found Adolph and Elvina in the 1930 census living at 2453 Snyder Street, Pittsburgh, Alleghany County, Pennsylvania.  Both Adolph and Elvina are 30 years old.  Two children are listed - Margrette E., 8 years old, born in New York and Norman R., 4 4/12, born in Pennsylvania.

Elvina died in Wexford, Alleghany County, Pennsylvania on 29 Dec 2000.  She was born 20 Apr 1899.

I have found a Norman R. Groetzinger living in Pittsburgh.  Please e-mail me at PLondahlsmid snabel ()lexcominc.net and I will send you his address and telephone number.

According to a record I found, Lillian Neble married Thorvald Rasmussen on 2 May 1934 in Brooklyn, New York.  However, I think this may be a transcription error and they may have been married on 2 May 1924.

I did find a Thorvald and Lillian Rasmussen in the 1930 census.  They were living in the Bronx, which is part of New York City.  All the information on Lillian matches the information on Lillian Neble.

Thanks Mia. You are becoming quite an expert on the Stubbekoebing Nebels!

I agree Homer. Others may google for names on their family tree and find something helpful here.

Although it's not relevant for Mia, I'm curious: Do you really think that's them in 1900? Christine's name would have to be alternately Sophie, since Christine was on the ship with Hans in 1894 (per ship manifest) and died 1947 per Find a Grave (per her grave marker).

Neble seems to be a place name, and more than one place in Denmark is called that. Is that right?

I'd not looked at the 1894 manifest to see that Christine Marie and a daughter Ellen were with Hans.  Hans, Sophie, and Soren are almost certainly the ones on the 1883 passenger list, but Sophie was born 1849 and Christine in 1860.    Hans died 1905 and I don't find matches for Christine, Ellen, or a different Hans in Perth Amboy censuses.  Still, quite a coincidence that two Hans Nebel Sorensen's should both be there.

Christine Marie's marker lists Clausen as maiden name:

Hi Homer,

The guy I had mentioned, Hans Nebel Sorensen, was born 11 August 1851.
The guy in 1900 census you posted was born September 1851, though I wouldn't rule him out based on that. I don't see the name Nebel in 1900 - just Hans Sorensen.

I couldn't find the right people in New Jersey in 1900 census either.

The quoted info shows why I think Hans has to be with Christine in 1900. And what you have just written points out that Sophie and Christine cannot be the same woman.

A mystery why Hans Nebel Sorensen disappears - I suppose he is just Hans Sorensen somewhere, and harder to spot. The 1894 manifest says he's going to Perth Amboy, and he's buried in Perth Amboy, but that doesn't prove he was living in Perth Amboy in 1900 I suppose.

My error, he's also only listed as Hans Sorensen on the 1883 manifest.

There's a Sophie Sorensen born ca 1849 Sweden in later censuses of Plainfield, New Jersey who may be above Hans' widow.  She listed 1884 immigration date in 1900 and 1883 in 1920.

This got much much longer, that I ever thougt it was possible. And gave me so much more information than I could hope about.

What did we do before www???

Before I started this inquiry I had a large familytree with family Neble.
The Family Neble had lived in the city of Stubbekøbing since 1719 and there are many many descendants.
About late 1880 some of them left Denmark in the hope, that they could get a better life in USA,
I knew some of them, - especially Sophus Neble who became the well know editor of "The Danish Pioneer" in Omaha, Nebraska.
He startet as a typesetter at the newpaper in his hometown Stubbekøbing. Later he often came on visit to Denmark and Stubbekøbing - and Stubbekøbing newspaper allways wrote story's about him and his family.
Sophus was the first to leave Danmark, and then his brothes and his mother, who were widow. And then all the others.

But my problem were: What became of alle Neble's who left Denmark and began a new life in USA. I had found some informations about the first and second US-generation, but then I lost them.

You have all helped me quite a lot with new informations, and you inspired me too look for anymore informations at the world wide web.

I have thougt a lot how I could share all the informations with you.
I think it's interesting that it's not only one Neble family who's leaving Denmark, - but more Neble-family's - and some single young men. They were all related, all some kind of cousins.

And I got problems - the Neble familytree now includes 65 pages (Legacy)! A simple version includes 13 pages!

To much to bring here.....

But I think I owe some off you - Jane Christiansen, Homer Ficken and Paul Londahl Smidt - the possibility to see the result. Send me a private message, and I wil send you the Neble Familytree in the simple version.

To Helge Nordstrand Nielsen - I have sent some information to you, - I hope I was usefull.
To Flemming Willum Petersen - I will contact you some of thise days.

I any other find this site, and want to know anything about the family, your welcome to contact me, and I will help if possible.

At last - Big news!
2 weeks ago I recieved a mail from a direct descendant of Sophus Neble! The person have found my name at this site, but chose to contact me private. They have for some time been looking for persons in Denmark, who knew about Neble-family.
It was my great hope to get in touch with direct descendant's - and it happened.

Well I stop my searching now.
I'm so thankfull to everyone of you who helped!
Thank you so very much!!

Hi I don't know if you still check this site or not.   My name is Jennifer Andrews.   My grandmother was Ann Karen Neble, and her grandfather was John Louis Neble  (brother of Sophus F Neble), who came to Omaha from Denmark.   My grandmother's only brother died young.  I know she had an Aunt Ann, who also died young - I am not sure what happened to her son.

At any rate,  Ann Karen Neble moved to California as a child and married Harold Hansen (from Iowa, but his parents were from Denmark).  They had three children:  Kristine Louise Hansen (Durcan), Mark Hansen, and Martin Peter Hansen.  Kristine is my mother.

I live in Tacoma, Washington.  My Uncle Mark is still in Las Vegas, and my Uncle Marty is in Austin, Texas.

I hope that helps and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Hej  :)

Hi, Neble investigators. The Danish Emigration Archive has Alexander Cumann Neble (DDD Udvandrerarkivet) under contract no 177500 with Thingvalla. Age 21, slagter/butcher of Stubbekøbing. For New York.
New York Passenger Lists 1820-1891 also shows Alexander C, 21, butcher - just where the paper is folded, which makes it a bit blurred. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939V-5BZ4-W?i=479&cc=1849782

This indicates, or so I think, that he arrived in New York safe and sound, not being marked in the "Dead on voyage" column. However, he probably died within a few years later, as a Stubbekøbing probate record after the death of his father did not mention him among the sons and daughters. http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=134136&side=380&height=636
