Hello,
I am working with a DNA cousin trying to determine who we are related through. It is obviously Denmark but we have differing opinions as to which relative it is through. In order to narrow down the information to facts I need help in confirming a few things.
First we have Amalie Dorothea Christine Pederson born 1863 in Flensburg to Sergeant Hans Christian Pederson and Ane Cathrine Dorothea Bastian. I am confident in Amalie's genealogy going forward as I have a number of source documents and Census documents that confirm she was born in Flensburg and confirming her marriage (no parents are mentioned in the marriage records) and children.
Birth Amalie Dorothea Christine Pederson 23 Jul 1863 Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany (see attached)
If Hans Christian Pederson is a Sergeant should I not find him in the Danish military archives somewhere? Or, due to his being in Schleswig-Holstein are those records held elsewhere? I want to confirm who his parents are; or, at least, who his father is.
(possible) Birth Hans Christian Pederson born 20 May 1829 baptism 19 Jul 1829 Skt Nikolaj, Køge, Kobenhavn to Peder Rasmussen and Inger Marie Jensdatter. How come his birth record for Køge is in Kobenhavn when Køge is in Roskilde?
Birth Hans Christian Pederson: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=204882#204882,38872957 (https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?bsid=204882#204882,38872957)
It appears from the birth record that the parents are from Strøby? But is this the right Hans Christian Pederson?
Based on the census documents that I have, Hans Christian Pederson apparently lived in Roskilde in 1845 and Fredericia, Elbo, Vejle in 1870.
The key person in all of this is the father of Hans Christian Pederson who we believe is Peder Rasmussen (my cousin has him born 13 Feb 1795 Strøby, Strøby, Roskilde, Denmark) but I need to confirm where exactly this Peder Rasmussen comes from because I think somewhere along the line my cousin may have picked the wrong Peder Rasmussen and possibly the wrong Hans Christian Pederson.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Could you please show or link to the 1870 Census?

Thank you Inger!
I have attached the 1870 Census as I could not find him on DDD.
For some reason I had expected the military records to have birth dates on them to differentiate people from each other.
His son Peter Carl Christian Petersen was born 22 Jun. 1857 in Flensburg. His confirmation 1 Oct. 1871 in Fredericia Michaelis:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17122716#161990,27212489 - No 2
It would be helpful, I think, if you could find the marriage of Hans Christian Petersen and Anna Cathrine Dorothea Bastian,
perhaps also the 1860 Census, both probably in Flensburg.

There are no birth dates in the index to the military records. In the records themselves, you'll probably find birth dates, or age and birth place.
Before 1848, only the peasantry was obligated for registration in the military conscription rolls:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Danish_Military_Levying_Rolls:_Who_was_recorded_in_the_L%C3%A6gdsruller
The parents of Hans Christian Pedersen born 20 May 1829, were living in Kjøge, i.e. in the town of Køge.
In addition to the conscription rolls, there are muster rolls (stambøger or -ruller) for privates and officers, but very few of those are online:

Thank you so much Inger! You have provided a lot of information for me to sift through.
