Line 7, Knud Borgesen. Under the column 'Faddernes fulde navn', Karl Vang is listed, but he emigrated to America in 1907. Is this saying he was in attendance at the birth in 1920 or does it just say that his wife Kristine was there?
What did it mean to be a sponsor?
Thanks, Tom
Tom
It says, that Karl Vang's wife Kristine, born Hansdatter, in Klint, Vestermarie (parish), carried the child.

CitatWhat did it mean to be a sponsor?
Where do you see that word.
The first word in the coloumn "Fadderne..." is Bærekone, i.e. as Ole wrote the woman, who carried the child.
Do note, the remarks: The wedding took place in Nylars Church, but it is registred in Vestermarie as #5.

Sponsors (faddere) must be honest and of an unblemished reputation, and take care of a christian upbringing for the child, if the parents are not able to do this.
Just to clarify, "carried the child" is a ceremonial term, not that Kristine actually gave birth to the child. Correct?
It sounds like Karl was not there, but that's how they referred to Kristine - "Karl Vang's wife".
Thanks,
Tom
Yes, that's correct.
