Bodil Marie Nielsen (b. 1817) married Jens Christian Jacobsen at Sankt Michaelis Sogn, Fredericia, Elbo Herred, Vejle Amt, Danmark on 2 December 1848. Prior to Bodil's marriage, she gave birth to a daughter, Thora.

Thora married Carl Frederick Lorents Peter Petersen on 3 October 1863 at Sankt Michaelis Sogn, Fredericia. Thora, Carl & their children immigrated to America in 1898. Thora remained in contact with her 1/2 siblings after her move. I would very much like to contact any descendant of the Jacobsen children, please. Those who probably survived to adulthood were:
1. Georg Geert Gelmyden Sophus Borck Jacobsen; b. 1849
2. Caritha Ralhilde Camilla Alfrida Jacobsen; b. 1851; m. Søren Matsen?; Children: Marina Christiane Alfreda Matsen, b. 1870 & Julie Gerda Justine Ragnhilda Matsen, b. 1872
3. Henriette Jacobine Anina Nielsine Jacobsen; b. 1853
4. Carl Christian Wilhelm Alfred Antonius Jacobsen; b. 1854; m. Ida Mariane Louise Clemmensen; Children: Gerda Jacobsen, b. 1884 & Alfrida Jacobsen, b. 1886
Thora & Carl's daughter kept a journal of their travels to America & other family members are mentioned in her writings. I hope to address these others at a later date.

Hello again, Inger -
Yes, once I get through the information that you have already so kindly passed along, I will be listing the grandchildren of the Jacobsens. I am attempting to learn to decipher the hand written entries in the church books - I am using the Google Translation app. I have been able to understand some of what is written, but I was wondering if you could possibly tell me what the column headings are in the church book regarding Henriette Jacobine Nielsine Anine's death? And, what her written entry states? I realize this would be very time consuming for you, so if you do not have the inclination to transcribe this, I completely understand. Thank you again for your wonderful assistance!

Hello Inger -
I am still working with the wonderful records that you passed along. I do have a question ...... I am sure I am incorrectly translating or misreading record(s) regarding Georg Geert Gelmyden Sophus Borck Jacobsen:
1. 1901 census Laxegade 10, Copenhagen: Anna Cecilie Jacobsen, widow, married 1874, HUSBAND [GEORG] DIED 1889, she has one living child.
2. Georg's wife, Anna Cecilie's 1908 record of death states GEORG DIED IN 1877.
I am confused as to which date, 1877 or 1889, is the date of death for Georg Geert Gelmyden Sophus Borck Jacobsen.
Regards -
Lynnea
I cannot find any information about Geert Geelmuyden Sophus Borch Jacobsen after he went bankrupt in 1876.
The information about her husband's death year given by Anna Cecilie Jacobsen at the 1901 census, is contradictory
to the information in her death record 1908.
The confirmation record of their son Hans Christian 6 Oct. 1889 doesn't bring any clarity:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17116057#151655,25215413 - No 11
- some of the fathers on the page are recorded as afdød 'deceased', but not Hans Christian's father.

- marital status of Anna Cecilie: E = Enke 'widow'
- Hans Christian moved to Copenhagen when he was 1 year old.
1906 census, Laxegade 10: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?bsid=13022#13022,431370

Hello Inger -
I am confused with the information regarding Anna Marie Striegler Jacobsen, b. 1882. Is she the daughter of Carl Christian Vilhelm Alfred Antonius & Ida Mariane Louise (Clemmersen) Jacobsen? In 1906, she is noted as the daughter of Henriette Jacobine Anina Nielsine Jacobsen's brother.
Also, I do not understand all that is written for Anna Marie's death - https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17122716#161995,27213449
I am slowly sorting out the overwhelming amount of information that you have located. Again, I thank you for your help.
Regards -
Lynnea
Inger - I made a mistake ...... I meant Anna Marie's birth, not death. L
Yes, Anna Marie Jacobsen (later Striegler) was the daughter of Carl Christian Vilhelm Alfred Antonius Jacobsen, and wife
Ida Mariane Louise Clemmensen.
The birth record: 19 June. Anna Maria (Jacobsen) Striegler. See Remark. Baptized in the church 16 Aug. 1882.
Merchant/shopkeeper Carl Christian Vilhelm Alfred Antonius Jacobsen, and wife Ida Mariane Louise née Clemmensen, 24 y.
Witnesses: The child's mother. Miss H. Jacobsen. The child's father. Clerk/shop assistant O. Mollerup. All in Fredericia.
Remark: According to letter from Kronborg vestre Birk of 25 Jan. 1910, Anna Maria Jacobsen has acquired
the right to henceforward use the family name Striegler, so that her full name will be Anna Marie Striegler.
Earlier I found her sister Frida Striegler (single, teacher) in the 1916 census for Odense, Hunderupvej 8:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9BQ-3C2L-V?mode=g&cc=2717471
I think I now found her sister Gerda Striegler (married) in the 1916 census for Randers, Nørrebrogade 26:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9BQ-3ZSY-3?i=1668&cc=2717471
N. M. Jespersen b. 29 Oct. 1888, Mason
G. Jespersen b. 17 Aug. 1886 (birth year is wrong)
Frida Striegler-Jespersen b. 13 Mar. 1913
Henry Striegler-Jespersen b. 1 Apr. (Aug.?) 1915
- cannot find the children's birth records in Randers Sankt Morten parish. Unfortunately, brith place is not mentioned in the 1916 census.
Best regards,
Inger
Thank you Inger. I am confused, though, as to why Anna, Gerda & Alfrida would take the family name Striegler. I have found no connection to that family name!
Sincerely -
Lynnea
Hello Inger -
According to what I have gathered, with your most appreciated assistance, this is what I have concluded regarding the children & grandchildren of Jens Christian & Bodil Marie (Nielsen) Jacobsen.
1. Georg Geert Gelmyden Sophus Borck Jacobsen & wife, Anna Cecilie Krog:
They had only a son, Hans Christian Jacobsen. He immigrated to America in 1910 and subsequently resided with his cousin, Carl Christian Frederik Vilhelm Matzen.
1910 U.S. census Borough of Brooklyn, New York City, Kings Co., New York:
241 Columbia Ave.
18/45
Matzer, Christian Head MW34 M1-4 Den Den Den imm 1904 Art studio
Annie Wife FW26 M1-4 2/2 Swe Swe Swe imm 1904
Ranhilda Dau FW3 S NY Den Swe
Annie Dau FW1 S NY Den Swe
Jacobson, Hans Cousin MW34 M1-5 Den Den Den imm 1910 Bookkeeper Department Store
Hans is noted as married, although his wife is not listed in this census. I can no longer locate Hans Christian Jacobsen after 1910. Did he return to Denmark?
2. Caritha Ralhilde Camilla Alfrida Jacobsen & husband, Søren Matzen:
They had 6 children, but I've only found information on their son, Carl Christian Frederik Vilhelm Matzen. He came to America November 1905. He married and had 5 children. His siblings, who probably remained in Denmark, were Marina Christiane Alfreda Matzen, Julie Gerda Justine Ragnhilda Matzen, Peter Thorvald Henrik Matzen, Henriette Matzen and Justine Catrine Thora Matzen.
3. Henriette Jacobine Anina Nielsine Jacobsen; never married, no issue, died in Denmark.
4. Carl Christian Wilhelm Alfred Antonius Jacobsen & wife, Ida Mariane Louise Clemmensen. They had 3 daughters, Anna Marie, Gerda & Alfrieda, all of whom took the last name Striegler. Why?

People with access to MyHeritage can search in Danish census records and parish records:

I don't know why the Jacobsen sisters took the family name Striegler. General information about name change:
https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Denmark_Names,_Personal
"In 1904 a new law allowed people to change their patronymic family name to a more individual name, often reflecting their
birthplace. Such changes are usually written in the church record where the person was born and under the same date."
