Hello
I am helping my friend, Jörmundur, who is of danish descent.
His great grandfather was Jørgen Frederik Hansen, born 10. april 1857 in Sønderborg (Aabenraa-Sønderborg Amt, Sønderborg Sogn, 1834F-1868F, Op. 365 - bottom page)
We can see his father's name is Frederik Ferdinand Hansen and mother is Stine??? Marie Hansen - most likely born Johnsen - datter til Jørgen Johnsen fra Norderborg and Anne Marie Johnsen
We need help finding Jørgen Frederik's ancestry, mainly his paternal (father, grandfather, great grandfather etc.) but we did not have any luck these past three hours.
We can see from the baptism record that Jørgen's father was Frederik Ferdinand Hansen (date unknown, place unknown) and we speculate that his father was Niels Hansen (date and place unknown) and his mother was Maren Olsen. More we do not know. Perhaps we suspect that Niels's father, (him being an illegitimate son) - a son to Georg Wilhelm Ferdinand? They have the same DNA.
Any help would be appreciated. We do not know how to search onward.
Best wishes,
Kristján

- the birth date is 2 Jun. 1777.
You find two Niels Hansen in Nyborg, born around 1777. One becomes a shoemaker, the other a mason:
Census 1787: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid368222 [born 2. Jun. 1777 in Nyborg]
Census 1787: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid360161 [born where and when?]
The shoemaker in Census 1801: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid1243189
The mason in Census 1801: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid1247156
Who is who in the 1787 census??
Master shoemaker Niels Hansen in Copenhagen must have had a trade license (Borgerskab), so maybe you can find his birth date in Borgerskabsprotokoller http://www.kbharkiv.dk/wiki/Borgerskab_i_K%C3%B8benhavn_1685-1932 at the Copenhagen City Archives.

I think you have the confirmation of two Niels Hansen in Nyborg 1793 here:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17138043#180280,30576272 - left page, 2nd column
- cannot read additional info about them.

Alright, so Niels Hansen was a shoemaker. He would be the correct man to look for next. Finding his parents is important, but was never possible. He is speculated to be descendant, illegitimate, of royalty thus could be hard to find. But it only is a speculation.
This information is great so far!
Best wishes,
Kristján
Hi, Jörmundur and I are getting nowhere with this. We are thinking about if we can shift to Christian Nielsen for a bit.
We tried looking in trinitatis sogn, but have not found him there. Maybe if we find where Christian is born we can perhaps find more connections.

His brother is Frederick Ferdinand, the tip oldefar to Jörmundur. We can't seem to get anywhere with him, so perhaps Christian will be a good start?
There is no information about him, and I don't know how to operate the census well enough to locate him in the next one and the previous ones, can you help please?
Best wishes,
Kristján
You might be able to trace the whereabouts of Niels Hansen in the Kraks Vejviser (Krak's directory)
I think it is him Hansen, Niels, Skomagerm., Løvstræde 122 on page 205 (https://user-9y8ca5x.cld.bz/Kraks-Vejviser-1840/208) of the 1840 edition.
Ah yes, he thought he could perhaps find him there today, so we searched but we did not quite manage to figure out how it works. This will probably prove us useful, but definitely hard to read.

We have been in contact to the Nyborgs arkivet. They helped us trace the two Niels Hansens who were mentioned to have lived in Nyborg. There is a Niels 1, and Niels 2.

Nyborg said that the mason, [2] lived his whole life in Nyborg. That would not fit to the description of our details. Man nr. 1 seems to fit better with our description, and perhaps tracing his ancestry further up would not be such a bad idea.
I can not see what parish nor place where he is born, where would I go on from here? Too many results on familysearch and danishfamilysearch. Where would I go on from here?
