Hello - I am looking for information on Johann Hannibal Schaldemose maybe born 1813-1814 at Vor Frelsers Kirkesogn. I would like to know who his parents and ancestors are and where from. I am very curious as to the origin of the name Schaldemose. Johann immigrated to Iceland, married and then immigrated to Canada. I believe anyone here (Canada) with this last name - is related! ::)
Hi Carren,
Johan Hannibal Schaldemose was born 28 Apr 1814 and baptized 29 May 1814 in Vor Frelser, Sokkelund, København, opslag 12. His father is Hannibal Bendix Schaldemose but I cannot read his mother's name.
Sincerely,
Paul

On www.arkivalieronline.dk - Vor Frelser parish, Sokkelund district, København county you will on opslag No. 67 (1801-1813) find the birth of Johan's sister Sophie Marie Christine Schaldemose - born 18 Oct 1812 to Hannibal Bendix Schaldemose and wife Olie Funk.
One of the witnesses was a Friderich Abraham Schaldemose - could be a relative.

Hi Carren,
Johan Hannibal Schaldemose's mother is definitely Olie Funk. I found the birth of Sophie Marie Christine Schaldemose on 18 Oct 1812 in Vor Frelser, Sokkelund, København 1801-1813, opslag 67. The name of the mother, Olie Funk, is definitely readable.
Johan Hannibal was confirmed in Trinitatis on 13 Apr 1828, 1814-1829 opslag 216 nr 5.
Hannibal Jørgen Schaldemose was born in Trinitatis on 11 Feb 1835, parents Hannibal Bendix Schaldemose and Sophie Magdalene Bohn, opslag 228 nr 38.
Sincerely,
Paul
Here is a family tree of Hannibal Bendix Schaldemose's second family that lists his birth and death dates and places:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=eneriis&id=I150106
It has been updated recently, and perhaps you should contact the submitter, who may not know of the earlier family.
The marriage between Hannibal and Sophie can be found in the church book: Vor Frue parish, Copenhagen on opslag 222 (1814-1837). Hannibal was grocer and a widower, 42 yrs old, and Sophie was 25 yrs old.
Clerk Schaldemose and cemetery worker Bohn were best men.

I read parents: Hannibal Schaldemose and Johanna Sophia born Matthein (?).

In the 1860 census you will find the Schaldemose family living at Vognmagergade 76 (corner building Vognmagergade/Slippen - Slippen doesn't exist anymore, but Vognmagergade does) - opslag 24 and 25. When trying on www.arkivalieronline (folketællinger = censuses) choose København, then Rosenborg kvarter, del II and Matr.nr. No. 67-144.
Hannibal was the owner of the house.

I believe the author of the rootsweb listing has made an error, as he has Hannibal's mother dead five months before Hannibal was born!

Hi Carren,
Are you interested in what has been found?

:D Oh my goodness, thank you ALL so very, very much. As I started to read the postings; I started to get tears in my eyes. It is so heart warming to know this information; I have searched for so long. Thank you just doesn't seem to express my gratitude. I am happy to say that my two sisters and the rest of the Sch...family here in Canada will be excited like I am. Time to put the information into my family tree and then send emails to the relatives or post to the Facebook Page - 'Schaldemose - We HAVE to be related'. Some great news! It wasn't until recently I realized this last name of ours was Danish! LOL We all thought it was Icelandic - since they had immigrated from there. Isn't the Internet marvelous.
Hi
I Horsens fungerede Hannibal Schaldemose i årene 1792-1803 som postmester,
og hans baggrund var dels 8 år som postskriver i København, dels 14 år som postfører i Jylland.
When did Jóhann Hannibal Schaldemose die
I am told it was in 1910 in Winnpeg but when ?

Kind regards

I have also relatives named Schaldemose.
Do you know this book?
"Familien Schaldemose" written by Karl Schaldemose Larsen.
I have seen it at The State Library i Aarhus.
The eldest members of the family is
Niels Mogensen and his wife Maren Sørensdatter. Niels died 1730.
They have 4 children, two of them are:
Anne Nielsdatter married to Niels Pedersen and Christian Schaldemose, his wife unknown.
Anne 1701-1778 and Niels 1702-1784. They had 3 children:
Peder Nielsen Schaldemose 1726-1790
Christian Schaldemose 1743-1807
Hannibal Schaldemose 1744-1803
Tove Laursen
Dear Tove
I know about the book but haven't seen it my self.
Thanks

Hi.
Maby you can enter (connect) via the BERNGRUBER web.site too.

I had someone translate some of the book 'Familien Schaldemose' by Karl Schaldemose Larson; 1st Edition 10 Feb, 1943, 2nd ed. 15 August 1954 (revised), 3rd ed. 15 April 19??
Page 2 under the heading "Skallemosehuus i Rørup Song [Skallemose house in Rørup parish]
It states "Dette hus, Skallemosehus, finder vi første gan nævet i 1730, men det ligger der stadig, godt nok in 3n ombygget skikkelse, det var et fæstehus under Søondergårde, der hørte under Erholm, som igen hørte ind under Wedellsborg, Husset ligger ved en korsvej, lige sydøst for gården Kelshøj og det har Matr. nr. 1 E." [Skallemosehus is first mentioned in 1730, but it is still exists, however in a rebuilt state. It was a tenant house under the Søndergårde farm which again was part of the estate Erholm which was a part of the estate Wedellsborg. Skallemosehus is located by a cross road south east of the farm Kelshøj. It has the matrikel No 1 E.]
From this information I understand the family received their surname from the name of the house located in the Rørup parish. From the pages translated it does not indicate the place name in Denmark. From public trees created by others on the internet I have come across the location as Odense, Denmark or Gelsted, Odense, Denmark. I would appreciate if someone could provide me with the location this house would be located in Denmark.
I, also, would love to see a photo/painting/sketch of the Skallemosehus if anyone knows if one exists.
Thank you.

On the map you can see, where The Skallemose House was located.
When you have the name "Aarup" you maybe can found it on a map of Denmark.
I only have a photo of the new house, built about 1900. It is in the book, that I mentioned earlier.
Greetings
