In the 1860 census from Ribe, Ribe, Vester Vedsted, name of Hans Peder Lausen or Lauritsen in subsequent census. He is listed as a Rormager for occupation.  I found one transcription saying it was a "pipe maker, man: make teeth, the blade of a handwrap".  I was thinking tobacco pipemaker or is it some other kind of pipe?  Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Ann Holt Thorsen

Kunne det være dræning af jord - det startede man for alvor på i Danmark fra ca. 1840, og dertil skulle der laves lerrør, og det kunne være det, som så hedder "rørmager".

Hi Ann

At that time - well piping for drainage of fields could be the right answer. These tubes were made of clay - approx. 20 to 30 cm long, diameter up to 10 cm.

I've seen it performed on my father's fields in the 1950s.

This person could then be a "tube maker" = "rørmager" = tube production.

Making clay-tubes = like making bricks for house building.

Greetings
Christian
