Hi, it has been a long time since I last posted in this forum so I hope I remember how.

If someone could help by trying to transcribe the birth entry #7 (24 Apr? 1821) at:
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=21975850#440143,79735895

I'm trying to find the birth record for Egidie Albertsen, born around 1821 and I believe on the Island of Ærø.
A census gives her birthplace as Søby sogn, but I couldn't find anything in those parish records.  Bregninge Sogn is nearby, so I'm looking there.

Thanks for any help,
Art Berggreen

Egidie is not a common name to me.  Could Gie have been a short alternate version for Egidie?
I have found what appears to be the birth and death records of her first daughter Maren Madsen (born 31 May 1843, died 8 Apr 1909 in Søby Sogn).  In the birth record, her mother's name is listed as Gie Albertsen.  In her death record her mother is listed as Egidie Albertsen.

Hi Art

I have not seen the name before in DK, but searching on Ærø at the censuses 1803 and 1845 there are many.
I think that Gie very well could be a short version of Egidia/Egidie.
Like we have Mie/Mia as a short version of Marie/Maria.

Ærø is an island with a very old tradition for sailing, so the name has probably been 'imported' from abroad.
Searching at FS in the Netherlands, another great sailing nation, reveals a lot of women named Egidia/Egidie.

Thanks Ole,

Unless I discover something else, I'm going to assume that Gie was short for Egidie/Egidia.  That makes things seem to make some sense.
