I could use some help locating a translating a baptism record. According to an ancestry.com index, Ane Jensdatter was baptized on 22 Jun 1766 in Store Heddinge, Praesto, daughter of Jens Hansen. The record is located on FHL Film 50760. https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/3385217:9825 (https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/3385217:9825) I believe I've located the correct page, but I still can't make it out. In the upper right corner appears to be a 22 Juny record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-R6VR?i=76&cc=2078555&cat=431663 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-R6VR?i=76&cc=2078555&cat=431663). Could someone help me out by locating and translating the correct baptism record? Thanks very much.

Thanks very much for the additional information Niels. I will check it out.
I could use some help tracking down her marriage record to Lars Hansen to try and figure out her father. I was helped greatly in previous discussion at https://forum.slaegt.dk/index.php/topic,139383.msg737450.html#msg737450 (https://forum.slaegt.dk/index.php/topic,139383.msg737450.html#msg737450)
According to FamilySearch indexing, there are four Ane Jensdatter's born in Store Heddinge in 1766 to these fathers:
1. 7 Feb 1766 to Jens Jensen: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYN1-798
2. 9 Feb 1766 to Jens Jorgensen: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYN1-79F
3. 14 Mar 1766 to Jens Olsen: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYN1-79J
4. 22 Jun 1766 to Jens Hansen: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYN1-79C
I learned from the previous discussion that her father could not have been Jens Olsen, leaving three others. She was married to Lars Hansen by the 1801 census: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid940822 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid940822)
Their known children were:
1. Hans Larsen, b. 6 Apr 1793 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-894W-R6JG?i=137&wc=M5KZ-MJ9%3A357517501%2C360106701%2C360233301%2C360234701&cc=2078555 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-894W-R6JG?i=137&wc=M5KZ-MJ9%3A357517501%2C360106701%2C360233301%2C360234701&cc=2078555)
2. Jens Larsen, b. 1795
3. Ane Margrethe Larsdatter #1, chr. 27 Nov 1801 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-RDT6?i=468&cc=2078555 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-RDT6?i=468&cc=2078555) (buried 6 Dec 1801)
4. Ane Margrethe Larsdatter #2, chr. 31 Dec 1802 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-RDT6?i=468&cc=2078555 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-RDT6?i=468&cc=2078555)
What I know of Ane Jensdatter and Lars Hansen are documented at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jensdatter-1726 (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jensdatter-1726) and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hansen-8364 (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hansen-8364)
If anyone here sees any information in the original records about the name of her father, or her marriage record, I would greatly appreciate your sharing it with me. Thank you.
Since it seem that Lars Hansen & Ane Jensdatter is NOT married in Store Heddinge Sogn [I assume it has been looked through thoroughly]; then Ane Jensdatter most likely comes from another parish as it was the custom to be married in the bride's parish.
So a plane could be to search for the marriage in surrounding parishes in Stevns Herred!
In the census 1801 their oldest child Hans Larsen is 8 years, so starting looking at marriages 1790-1793 (in case the first child died).
Stevns herred with parishes: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/01/Stevns_Herred.png
Ane Jensdatter is the most common Danish name you can find through the ages and it is often very hard to distinguish between them (sometimes impossible if the church books doesn't give enough information); so finding 4 in Store Heddinge born in 1766 is not something "special" for that parish.
Thanks for the research suggestions Niels. While I have looked through the marriage records in Store Heddinge from 1788-1792, my skills are very limited, so I can never be sure that I didn't miss something. I was hoping that another record, such as a child's baptism, might give a clue as to her parents.
Might have found her marriage record. I looked again in Store Heddinge whose records are actually quite readable and didn't find it. Following Niels' advice, I looked next in Holtug. This might be it: http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=151735&side=63 (http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=151735&side=63); top left entry. Could I get a translation? I think it might say "Tomastrup" after the name Lars Hansen. According to his death record, he apparently became insane and returned home to Thomestrup: http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=423949&side=7 (http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=423949&side=7); first entry, #5

Spons. [= Forlovere]: Rasmus Hansen (his brother?), Jens Hansen (her father?). [Sadly not stated where; but maybe it is because they both are local (in the parish)?]
NB: Gjorslev in Holtug Sogn, NOT Gørslev in Gørslev Sogn!!
Holtug Sogn: https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holtug_Sogn
Gjorslev Slot: https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gjorslev
So if she is at Gjorslev in 1788, she might be working at the manor, or surrounding area, also in the census of 1787.
We have a very strong candidate!

Thanks very much for your help Niels. The Lars Hansen in that 1787 census appears to be the wrong age but she does appear to be a good fit. This might be him: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107938 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107938). The "marriage" record I found was the trolovelse. The vielse appears to be at http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=151735&side=70 (17 Mar, lower right). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to add anything.
I didn't find a baptism record for her in Holtug. The trolovelse listing bondsman/witness of Jens Hansen as her potential father might put back in play the Store Heddinge baptism I referenced earlier and translated by Ole Westermann, (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-R6VR?i=76&cc=2078555&cat=431663 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-994W-R6VR?i=76&cc=2078555&cat=431663)), upper right:

In this confirmation record for Niels Larsen (#24), son of Lars Hansen and Ane Jensdatter, may I ask what the words are before and after her name? https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G94W-BJ22?i=213&cc=2078555 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G94W-BJ22?i=213&cc=2078555)
"Lars Hansen, gaardmand i Thomestrup og hustru (= wife) Ane Jensdatter".
Doesn't seem to appear in Store Heddinge Sogn in Folketælling 1834.
Thanks Niels. This might be problematic as I thought Lars Hansen died in 1818 (#5): http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=423949&side=7&height=929 (http://ao.salldata.dk/vis1.php?bsid=423949&side=7&height=929) I wonder if the pastor just didn't note the parents' status.
Very often at Confirmations the priests doesn't give the information/confirmation, whether the parents are alive or deceased.
He often just copies the parents (and their information) at the time of the baptism!
So I don't see it as a problem that it doesn't say "afdøde"!
Thanks for clarifying this. I appreciate your help Niels.

NB: Extremely lucky that the priest gave this much information [unusual at this time]
So it should be the Ane Jensdatter baptised 22. June 1766 Store Heddinge Sogn and from "B" [= can only be Bjælkerup]!
So at some point her son - Hans Larsen - took over the house in Tommestrup (1818, when Lars Hansen died?) and she got "aftægt" [so she handed over the legal ownership of the house to her son, with the condition/agreement, that she could stay in the house until her death and being fed by the sons family].
I have the 1801 census, but the 1834 one I previously thought might be for a different Ane Jensdatter from Erikstrup, Store Heddinge whose age matched more closely in the 1787 and 1801 census: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107780 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107780), https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid940274 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid940274). Your great find of the burial record does suggest that the 1834 census is for "my" Ane Jensdatter. I don't think I'd looked for her burial record that late, so thanks very much Niels for locating that important record.
Edit: Ah! And now I see your edit about the B[jælkerup]. That does appear to be the smoking gun linking to the right Ane Jensdatter! Outstanding. Really excellent work Niels.

B[jælkerup] is not specified, so it could be a third Jens Hansen in Store Heddinge Købstad.
Many great finds! I am very confused by 1787 census. In Bjælkerup, we have one Jens Hansen aged 58 married to Karen Jensdatter (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107884 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107884)) and a second Jens Hansen aged 60 married to Anne Jørgensdatter (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107866 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107866)). So the older (gamle) Jens Hansen is actually younger than the other per this census?
Hi Kerry.
Happy to be of help :)
Yeah since ages of especially old people are often not trustworthy it's still really absurd that we end up having the younger Jens Hansen listed as being older than the older Jens Hansen in the 1787 census ::)
But you see: To have any chance to find out relationships in these time periods you really have to get an overview of all the family. Any family connection could give the needed proof or at least a good guess.
In extreme cases you have to write all persons in the parish (only really viable in low population rural parishes) and trying to untie the family relations - and still sometimes it is impossible (in cases where the priests doesn't give any information and you don't have any probates).
It is these kind of "detective cases" I find really fun to try to sort out!
Sadly in these cases we have several people on "aftægt" and then you almost never have any "skifte". The ownership has already been transferred while the person was alive, so the people on "aftægt" generally don't own anything anymore. If nothing to inherit than no "skifte" will be conducted!
Cheers
Niels

So we have 2 Jens Hansen born in 1725 and 1730, where both is carried at the baptism by Peder Klein's [Kleinsmed?] wife.

If that's preliminary, I wonder what complete looks like. :D I'm far behind on reviewing all of this. Hopefully I'll have the time soon. Thanks Niels!

Many great finds! I am very confused by 1787 census. In Bjælkerup, we have one Jens Hansen aged 58 married to Karen Margrete Jensdatter (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107884 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107884)) and a second Jens Hansen aged 60 married to Anne Jørgensdatter (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107866 (https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/cid107866)). So the older (gamle) Jens Hansen is actually younger than the other per this census?

What is the meaning of "Caution: Hans Jensen B[jælkerup] og Niels Hansen i Strøebye [Strøby Sogn, Stevns Herred, Præstø Amt]." in this transcription above:
Trolovet: 16. November 1759.
Jens Hansen ?Bund? og Ane Jørgensdatter.

I might have tracked down Margarete Jensdatter's baptism, daughter of Jens Nielsen in Bielcherup, on Dom. 17 Trinit. (5 Oct 1732), 2nd entry on right: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17118800#156879,26303070 (https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17118800#156879,26303070). Could I get a transcription? Thanks.
Dom. 17. Trinitatis = 5. Oktober 1732.
"Døbt samme dag [same day] Jens Nilsens [normally Nielsens] barn Margarete [Jensdatter] af Bielcherup.
Margarete Keys..? af Holtug baar det. [So she is the "Gudmor"]
Faddere: Hans Svendsen, Lars Henrichsen, Jens Cristoph[ersen's] søn Søfren, Dorthe Nielsdatter, Maren Nielsdatter."
NB: Søfren (/Søvren/) is the older form of modern Søren. [from Latin Severinus]

I think it says "
Den frie" [the free].
This could mean that this Jens Hansen was a self-owner and not a fæster!
Caution is short for Cautionist =
Forlovere.
In Denmark you had one "Forlover" for the Groom [Groomsman] and one for the Bride (often her father or a brother) [Bridesman??]
Your question: "
What is the word before Jens Hansen in this 17 Dec 1779 baptism of Maren?
I think it also says "
Frie" at the beginning!

What does it say about Karen's baptism on 2 Feb 1763: Column 2, #3, https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17118800#156880,26303195 (https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17118800#156880,26303195). "Jens Hansen, Universitetsbonde, hans datter Karen af Bielcherup d. 2. September."
Så this Jens Hansen has a
fæste at the land owned by the Copenhagen University (which owned land in different parts of Denmark).
So we have a difference between a "free" (self-ower?) Jens Hansen and a "fæster" (at the Universitets Gods) Jens Hansen.
Your question: "
Anything about young or old Jens Hansen in this 15 Sep 1776 baptism of Peter".
Sadly no information. It is also written "død", so this Peder died as a baby.
Your question: "
This Hans bapt. 9 Oct 1768 was clearly identified as son of gl Jens Hansen, so unless he died, the other might be young Jens."
Correct. This child Hans also is stated as "død", so also died young as a baby.

Folketælling 1787: Præstø, Stevns, Store Heddinge Landsogn, Bjelkerup, , 12. familie, FT 1787, A3914
Jens Hansen 60 gift Husbond Bonsk Gårdbeboer [Fæster at Universitets Gods]
Anne Jørgensdatter 48 gift Madmoder
Emmanuel Pedersen 32 ugift Tjenestekarl
Karen Jensdatter 21 ugift Tjenestepige [So she must be the daughter of Jens Hansen & Anne Jørgensdatter]
Jørgen Andersen 17 ugift Tjenestedreng
Ursula Jensdatter 79 enke mandens moder på aftægt
Christen Gregersen 57 gift Mand Inderste
Else Marie Andersdatter 49 gift hans kone
Karen Christensen 2 ugift deres barn
Kilde: Dansk Demografisk Database.
NB: Så Emanuel Pedersen & Karen Jensdatter is married between 1787-1788.
This Jens Hansen has a mother Ursula Jensdatter who is still alive and "på aftægt".
So this Jens Hansen must be the "young" Jens Hansen, but definitely not the "gamle" Jens Hansen.
The one who as 60 years old is registred in the Folketælling 1787 as older, than "gamle" Jens Hansen!
Beware that both Jens Hansens have a daughter called Karen!
Niels, that's really incredibly helpful information. Great find on the Skifteprotokol which clarifies the frie vs. fæster Jens Hansen. I've written up Wikitree profiles for the two men and given you credit in the Acknowledgements: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hansen-18638 (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hansen-18638) and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hansen-18673 (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hansen-18673). Now it's on to Hans Jensen. Since you mentioned how common is the name Ane Jensdatter, I'm guessing that Hans Jensen and Jens Hansen are right at the top of the list for men. Thanks co much for everything. Kerry
Thank you! Just keep asking here if you have questions.
Yeah, Hans Jensen and Jens Hansen er among the most common male names!
Good hunt
