Ibsdatter

I have come across an ancestor with the last name of Ibsdatter.  Does this really mean that her father's first name was Ibs?  It's just so unusual and I was wondering if the word Ibs comes from something other than his first name.

Her father's first name was Ib, also written Jep or Jeppe.

 My mother's cousin is named Ib.  Kind of a unique name, but people still use it.
