Hi,
I am curious about the name Buchholdt.  Is it's origin considered Danish or German? My family I am following is located in Denmark.
Thank you,  Kim Buchholdt

John Thomsen

Buch is German. The suffix "-holt" is Danish. A Danish edition of Buchholdt is Bøgelund. Both meaning "a little forrest of beeches".

Querying named places in Denmark, I get the following counts:

Buchholdt: 0
Buchholt: 0
Bøgeholt: 7
Bøgelund: 78

Fagus sylvatica - beech - buch - bøg

Homer Ficken

Buchholz is a common German name also found in Denmark.

Klaus Struve's Schleswig-Holstein emigrant website lists 3 with Buchholdt name and 17 Buchholz:
