What does the "s" mean?

I have been looking at several documents and find abbreviations that contain additional "s" s. What is the meaning of such?

For example, the attachment shows a death notification with the Sogn handling the burial as 'De gl.s by s'. I know that this is 'de Gamles By'. But what are the additional "s" with the abbreviation? I have seen this with 'R.s H.s' abbreviation for Rigshospitalet, as well as others.

Thank you for any insight and explanation...

De gamles By - City old the old (people)

So it refers to the genitive form of 'gamle' - a genitive s
